Also, it said that Ross had recorded some demo tracks before he passed away, and that Mark and Danny used those cuts as the starting points for Ronnie's Samba, La Luna, and Slip & Sliding. That seems to me at first read to be a backward way to create a song, but upon further review I must conclude that it took some kind of genius to pull it off. You must have missed about half of their interviews and such. ;-) It's all true. I have wondered though what the parts were originally intended for. Once I was listening and thought I could imagine one in "Matt's Mood" (the song) but the next time I heard it, I figured I must have been sleep-deprived. I don't play for many weddings these days, but have probably about 70-80 weddings that I have played for, during the last 25 years or so. (organ/piano/sometimes vocals) Also, about a year ago, I sent a cassette copy of She Deserves It to my wife's niece. Tarra had just married before that, but her previous experiences with guys were horrible, even to the extent of a rape situation. Just about the time she was feeling her worst, Jake came along, who by anyone's standard is a true hero. And every time I heard that song, I would think of Tarra, and finally made a copy (tape and printed words) and sent it to her via her sister. Tarra later thanked me profusely for sending that song to her, as it really touched her deeply. Just thought I would pass that along. You may not realize how long songs can be until you have to dance to them. Without other people. Loooong songs. While on the wedding topic: over the years I've heard lots of people use Time and Tide as a wedding song. Er..why? I know to each their own, but it's about... waiting for someone. I had a friend who asked me to put together a tape for him (years ago), a collection of songs he and his new bride could listen to as they drove to their honeymoon. I was a DJ at the time and had a large collection of music (still do). He asked for one song in particular, "Same Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg. The first line if the song is "Met my old lover in the grocery store." I filled him in on that little bit of trivia, along with the story that plays out in the song. Suffice it to say he decided to leave it out. We still joke about that. Another friend was going to use a song in his wedding until I told him what it was about, but I don't recall the exact song now. I just remember he, the other friend, and I were all friends. So it all ties together in my memory. People hear a melody they like, or they know a part of a song, and they don't pay attention to the rest. Morons. Like I always say, people are weird.
