Subject: RE: The Best Part of Last Night Leslie, If this could ease your mind, I tell you, you're not alone. When meeting Basia, Thelma gave many of my posts to her - DIRECTLY! Yes, Personally. When Thelma told me, I felt that a Toyota Land Cruiser equipped with 44" tyres, winches, hi-lift jack, lights, and full of roll bars fell onto my head suddenly! She told me what Basia said, that she loves to have some reading material, when she handed it to her. But I'm sure, after reading that, she will think that I'm crazy. Actually, right now I'm pretty sure that Basia has read them all. But I'm still hoping, she won't be insulted, or my words won't hurt her feelings. No, I don't blame Thelma for doing that. In fact, I have to thank her because she did more than I asked - to give my warm regards to her. I consider that as a letter that I sent to Basia, in an unusual form, of course. But guessing what Basia thinks or feels about that, really disturbs my night rest. Let's cross fingers that everything would be OK. Czesc, Desianto F. I don't expect to have the same experience there as in Atlanta, but will enjoy it anyway. Our seats in Atlanta were 5-10 feet from Basia and Mark. If you see me at the Orlando show, stop me and introduce yourselves! I'm the one in the brown shirt in the last few pictures at http://pbase.com/cwnelson/basia Steve, Thelma, Lonnie, Mike, Lewis, Nate - - It was nice to meet and speak with you all. Tara enjoyed meeting you all too. I can't wait to see Nate's pictures when they're posted to BasiaWeb! Thelma and Mike - I know you have good pictures, too.....lets see them! It was such a great night. Steve- we stopped in Laurens just to check it out after talking to you. It's a cute town, sort of like Mayberry! Leslie - I did hear your name mentioned by Danny, too. I think they're looking forward to meeting you. Well....we're off to Orlando tonight after work (to make a weekend of it!) It's a long drive! JOE (the lurker from SC) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 00:38:07 -0400 From: "Lonnie or Thelma" Subject: My post on the Atlanta show... First... It was like a dream... when I see "me" in the pictures... it was more like a bad dream. In high school, I never weighed over 105 pounds and I knew I did not look too great anymore but seeing me next to Basia made me realize how bad I look. It also did not help that the night before I had minimal sleep due to just being excited about going to the concert. I had not had a night like that since I knew there "WAS" a Santa Clause. If anyone is offered one of those makeovers with 6 weeks on a fat farm and you don't need it... I will take it.... OK... with that out of the way. What a perfect evening.... We enjoyed traveling with Mike Nice. When we got there we met Joe and Tara from Charleston, SC and they said "Are you Thelma?" The shirt gave me away... thanks Beverly. We moseyed to the back of the theater and met Danny and Mark. Danny went out of his way to have me turn so Mark could see the shirt and feel the love. I tried to give Danny something I had for Basia but he would not take it. He insisted that we come back at "half six" to catch Basia on the way in. We went for something to eat and returned to be 2nd in line behind Nate from the Yahoo list. Nate shared a personal encounter he had with Basia in San Francisco in 1994. At half six, Mike and I went around back. When Basia got out of the car she said "Are you Thelma?" It did not make my day... my week... just my life. She could not have been more sweet and gracious. Danny had mentioned to her that I was there and had something for her. He remembered my name. I am going to pay closer attention to peoples names from now on. I made a little cross-stitch for her and my 14 year old son made her something in art. (plus there was wheat bread) She squeezed me while posing for pictures. I said the same thing to her that I said to the people from Publisher Clearing House when they came to my house... "Are you real?" while touching her face. After she left... I had to reconfigure my walking pattern in that my legs would not work without direct instructions any longer... It was truly a dream. I went to my car for something and met a "lurker" who said "Are you Thelma?" Such a nice guy who I will not name without permission. Lurk away ! While waiting for the show to start, I stood up once and a guy behind me said "Are you Leslie?" I said... "Yes" not really.... just kidding... I walked a few feet and met another "lurker" and he said "Are you Thelma?" I really enjoyed talking to them. We really have some WONDERFUL lurkers on this list. All list members were like instant friends. It endears me more to Basia after meeting the people who also love her. I went to the restroom and once again... "Are you Thelma?" It just made me smile. Someone ask me about back stage passes thinking I was with the band. It was just fun. I feel like a member of a club that money can not buy entree into. Do not end a sentence with a preposition... I know, I know ! ! ! The show was perfect. Hearing "Golden Days" and "Wrong Side" live made me like the songs more. When she did the old favorites... tears uncontrollably came from my eyes. I laughed and cried at the same time thinking how the songs always made me feel good before but now were making me cry. I loved the perfect harmonies when the girls "oooooed" together. They can "oooo" at my funeral. Just a perfect evening and ditto to the "Time and Tide" observation by Steve. It was great to meet Steve after the show. Just a neat and interesting guy. In my dream imagination, my trumpet player husband, Lonnie, would get in a conversation with Kevin and that happened. I have a great picture of the two together. I asked Kevin if he had ever heard of anyone grinding their teeth down in order to play higher notes on the trumpet. He said "No." I said, pointing to Lonnie... "He did that." I made Lonnie start talking about the tongue control embouchure taught by Callet. It was great. Kevin told Lonnie that he picks the musicians for Basia. This was indeed a night to remember for me... a mother of six from South Carolina. I really do have a life that usually revolves around my family. It was fun to do something that was so just for "me." Mike and I talked all the way back to South Carolina. It was easy to do having a common love for Basia. I had never met him before but we have this list and it ties all of us together. OK... I don't like long post either but there was just so much to share. Go and bask if you get the chance. It sounds like they were looking forward to meeting you already. You heard how much they responded to your question on the radio! Des--everything will be fine. Really. I understand your worry-- I'm more than a little worried myself now that I know they're looking for me! But it will be fine. You're expressing yourself in a different language-- she's been there, I'm sure she understands how hard it can be to make things come out the way you mean. I've really gotten a joy from seeing some of you, in your photos anyway, for the first time in all these years. The only person that even remotely resembles my mental image is Mike Nice, and even then he still looks really different! It started to then make me think of how I might be pictured, then I started thinking how Basia and Danny must picture me, then I got an image of a drooling fangirl in my head, a la Spumco animation, and that freaked me out! LOL So I stopped thinking about it! Yes, I'm worried. If we do run into one another I'm going to have to just not think about who they are but just greet them as people I like. Or something! I still doubt it wil happen, it just doesnt seem real or possible to me yet. I'm making my shirts this weekend and I'm not sure which one I'm going to wear! One is one of the foreign T&T covers but with the writing Photoshopped out, one is an old-school MB collage thing that I'm making from some of my stuff, and since I want to wear them IRL they aren't really blatantly fan-y. But those who know, will know what they are. :-D I'm looking forward to it-- I bought some nice and properly fitted and cheap black t-shirts at Target and some transfer paper made for dark colors. Yes I'm one of those black clothes wearing types! Have fun, you guys going tonight, be sure to send me your accounts and please don't blind them with your flashes too much! - -- Leslie O.
