You could do this for a living. I especially appreciated your remarks concerning SOS's Cansfield and the underated talents of Danny White. The pre-recording seems to be the norm now. I have been on this list since 1994 and even in the good old days of "the Roach" there has never been an outpouring of that much unqualified, mediocre and opinionated rubbish as in the last 150 posts I just had to force myself through. The fact that Mark, Danny and Basia are back together is, although purely for economic reasons (no recording contract for Mrs B for yonkers and sliding japanese sales for MB), very much to applaud, although I would have preferred to have heard Mark Fisher's talents in conjunction with Danny's. They have given us a quite pleasing album that was (expectedly) far away from milestones like "Time and Tide" and MB's second, self-titled album, but at least "Ronny's Samba" is a beautiful toetapper. With their tour they've given thousands of pining Basia fans a chance to see her again, albeit in different circumstances, but hey, better than nothing. If you look at the setlist, Mark Reilly was obviously happy to sacrifice his impressive backcatalogue of 10 Matt Bianco albums with Mark Fisher for Basia's rather smaller oevre, which I wasn't surprised about, because Mark is certainly not an egotistical ex-celebrity. I have known Mark Reilly (and Mark Fisher) now since 1999 and have through rather weird circumstances become good friends with them individually (and have shared many glasses of wine with them) and can honestly say that I have rarely spend time with such a humble and unassuming genuinely nice bloke as MR. He's rather quiet but when he speaks up it's mostly a rather funny little quip. He's also a pretty good businessman and a surprisingly good musician. He is obviously not in the same vocal league as Basia, but, in the right studio setup, his voice suits the songs he choses to sing. He is also a rather eccentric dancer :-) To read on this list of how one of my best mates is being dragged through the mud, is - to put it gently - not very pleasant. I'd rather ask you to enjoy the opportunity of seeing the three of them back together. Marvel at Basia's vocal acrobatics, hop around uncontrollably with Mark and meditate with Danny. They tour far to seldom to do such a thing and they have a thing about their music being purely as intended. I admire that. Your brief, yet short wit. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 08:58:56 -0500 From: "Kamille" Subject: Mark Reilly For whatever reason, Americans seem to prefer the music of Basia and Danny as record sales will attest. Whether it was lack of talent or lack of promotion, Matt Bianco never caught on here while they were huge in Europe and Japan. From what I understand, Basia and Danny never reached the popularity they enjoyed in the US in Europe and elsewhere. Based on that, it seems obvious to me that most of us would prefer to have all Basia all the time on this current tour. If she'd joined the Menudo reunion tour, I would still buy a ticket. I don't think Mark deserves the personal attacks -- he's sold more records than any of us and it's too easy to throw rotten tomatoes (at Mark and each other) from the anonymity of this list. That's been a pattern here for some of us and is a reflection of inner soul. Subtracting all the nasty stuff, I think it's simply a matter of the American palate. But, thank you, Mark, for whatever part you played in helping Basia return to the studio and the stage. After all, that's what we waited so long for. THE END. The quality of this list has dropped considerably in the last several months. I don't think Mark is a great singer, but to listen to the diatribes here, you would think he made Joe Cocker sound like Ole Blue Eyes. Some people on this list don't know the difference between satire and BS. They have also never heard of hyperbole. Just another example of the dumbing down of American eduaction, I suppose. Hang in there.
