Sorry, Dirk. Just delete this one, there will be one right after. ;-) Now Mark gets the interview hot seat (or 'hot phone' I suppose). Linked to the BasiaWeb front page, from the Washington Times. Some choice bits: - --"I invited him up to our studio ... and he said, 'Let's get together and write some songs.' I didn't really think it was going to be for Matt Bianco." - --'Looking back on the time, Mr. Reilly says that there were probably personal problems between himself and Basia, but that both have done a lot of growing up since. ' and... (drumroll) 'Of course, the question has to come: Will the trio make another record soon, or will fans have to wait years again? "It's kind of up in the air," Mr. Reilly says. "We've started working on some new ideas. I think a lot of that rests of the success of the album. I think we'd all love to make another album if this one has any amount of success."' Go read! Maybe that's more my problem than theirs. :P __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Personals - Better first dates. I like Mark, now.... but my theory on this issue (admit it, we all have one) is that on one hand Basia was discovering that she had a lot more to offer (probably thanks to Danny encouraging her), and on the other hand Mark wanted to be the boss. And it's pretty obvious that Danny's relationship with Basia would have irritated this issue further. Since they were so young in those days I imagine ego was a lot more important. I have a hard time imagining Basia with a ego but who knows. He had just started singing when they made WSAYO and you can tell-- remember, he was a guitarist in Blue Rondo, not a singer. Basia isn't yet fully formed on that record either, IMHO, but it's pretty obvious listening to it how things are bound to go. I think of Mark as more a song stylist than a singer, even now. (not a slam, just that I see a difference between a 'song stylist' and a 'singer.' Basia is a singer.) On WSAYO, with the exception of the title track and More Than I Can Bear, I too found Mark atrocious. His songwriting as well. But I do like him on Matt's Mood, he is a nice counterpoint to Basia and his songwriting is hugely better, obviously. I know you guys don't care for him for the most part but he has won me over a bit. - -- Leslie O. "People around the world want the same thing- wanting to love and be loved. My wife and I are excited and looking forward to seeing them on April 16 at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia). We've been waiting many years for a chance to see Basia in person. I'm happy to hear that she is including some songs from her solo albums and it's very gracious of Danny White and company to add that to their Matt's Mood repertoire. Something else that I have not seen discussed here, but this is not intended as a religious slant because I am not a particularly dogmatic person. I'm not even Catholic. But I'm thinking that Basia may be particularly sad over the loss of her countryman, Pope John Paul. I know he had deep meaning and connection for many Poles. So I'd like to extend my condolences and share in that sadness with her. You don't have to be Catholic to recognize that he was an extraordinary man and that anyone with Polish heritage is likely to feel a tremendous loss even more so than the phenomenal outpouring from around the world. Just some words to give a little something back to a woman who has given much to us musically.
