[Leslie Osborn ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 07 Apr 2005 00:27:42 -0700 From: Eryn Rachell Saddler Subject: WOW!!!! The Chicago Shoiw I don't there is a lot I can add to Max's splendid detail from the Minneapolis show, but I can wholeheartedly say, he hit it spot ON! O'2L dished out generous portions the most wicked cool fusion of Jazz/Rock/Groove I've ever experienced -- they're powerful, tight and creative. Nice people, they are, to boot! They openly expressed their appreciation to have the opportunity to tour with Basia/MB, and at the end of their set, told to get ready for a great show! Then, the clutterted, seemingly tiny stage, was cleared of their equipment and MB's gear was made ready - already there along with O'2L's, but they went to great lengths to make sure it was all properly ready. It was interesting to see a laptop at the left side of where Danny was to be seated.... Straight away, I am compelled to say that it was a Basia crowd, but eagerly got into all things Matt Bianco. However, Basia stole our hearts. While it is quite likely that far more MB fans were in the audience the I could guess, it was Basia who brought out the audible response of appreciation - most frequently, from a single note of sweet famiiarity. This was my first time seeing her live, and her first note made my eyes leak. Oh bother, what can I say, I frequently found myself with wet cheeks, and smiling, simultaneously. I was genuinely moved, deeply, to be able to be just feet away from her. She interacted with everyone from the performers, to the audience - oft, I felt as she was singing to me directly when in our section of the stage - she makes splendid eye contact, and body language to her audience. I about lost it when she sang "It's gonna be a New Day, for You", looking right at me. I took it personally ;) I was not disappointed at all with Matt Bianco, rather, have a much deeper appreciation of their work. Ironically, when Mark sang "I didn't mean to", I totally became entranced, and had to mop up my eyes once again - it was *beautiful*. Danny was beyond brilliant, unassumingly behind his keyboards, *into* his contribution, and was given a chance to perform while Basia, Mark and the backup vocalists went offstage. He did not disappoint!! Basia sister was indeed, singing in the middle of the trio, and contributed immensely - all 3 of them were fantastic! Their supporting cast of percussion, guitars and wind instruments are excellent, relaxed, and truly are into the whole set. When they all lined up to do their "end of the show bow", my bestest friend asked if that was really the end of the show - and I assured her it was a fake ending and they'd be back for two more songs. (It's cool to have inside information - hee hee) Max was right, it was an evening of "chair dancing" and bobbing and swaying, and the like. Then the time came where they told the house it was time to get up and dance, and broke into Don't Blame it On that Girl - "Chicago's luckiest" was on it's feet and wriggling like there was no next song. And then, it was over - I told my friend "Now", and we zipped up towards the front entrance, just in time to see Our Divine Lady wave and exit out into the dark, rainy Chicago night. (mist likely, directly into the bus just outside ;) And now, Basia and Danny and Mark and all who are presently Matt Bianco, are on their way to the next lucky crowd who will have the delight to witness her, either for the first time, or for the umpteenth time. But I can promise, it will be a delicious and *fun* experience. All the way home, the sound of the windshield/screen wipers were seeting a rhythm, blended with the ringing in our ears, and quiet conversation of just how splendid of an evening it was, and how privelaged we felt to have had the chance to bask in the company and Voice of Basia, see her right there in front of us, and her whole group of very wonderful and talented musicians, dearest and closest friends and family. I shall always remember this evening. Amen. ~eryn the dreamy-eyed ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 04:06:42 EDT From: PParm16424@aol.com Subject: Re: WOW!!!! Basia IS Back!! Leslie: I couldn't get that darned camera out of the 1/1000 of a sec speed and a lot of them are just plain dark. The blurries are from shooting in program mode and the internal light meter reads all the dark around the stage. Those were anywhere from 1/2 second to 1.5 sec. No one can hold a camera still for that long! When I zoomed in on her white blouse and got the black background out, the meter would jump to 1/25, but still a little slow for a moving target like her when she's performing. I'll read the instruction manual and see what I need to know for next time. There may be one or two that turn out. It's a 5.1 mega pix Olympus. Firstly, I want to congratulate all of you who were able to see MB/Basia live: I have been fortunate to be witness of 4 live MB concerts and 2 DVD live recordings and have been a fan since WSAYO and I envy all of you having the chance of experiencing this impressive set. Basia's albums are a regular staple of my musical diet, but I have always had a thing for Mark Fisher's songs, so I have just a little problem with the current set list: "Don't blame it on that girl"??? This is undoubtedly one of the three crappiest songs of MB's worst album. To reduce Mark Fisher's legacy of 15 years as MB's headhoncho in the songwriting department to one (rubbish) song is not really appropriate, if not offensive. Grr..... D P.S. I am still fed up with all the bloody crossposting: Can't we finally merge the bloody lists? - - Dr Dirk Pilat Central Medical Oamaru New Zealand ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 10:45:20 EDT From: J3SITE@aol.com Subject: BARGAIN BIANCO Interested in Matt Bianco's Indigo CD? Wow. I agree with everything Amy said but wanted to add a few things. This was a small venue and we were sitting CLOSE, like 20 feet. Basia was wearing a white silk blouse, black pants and a black and white neck scarf. SHE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL!!!! Her hair is the same, long with bangs and she hasn't changed one bit! She just looked terrific! I don't know if her mic was too low or if she was holding back, but we could barely hear her in the first few songs. Not the case later. She was clear, strong and PERFECTLY in tune on every note. It was like each note was an individual gift she was giving to her fans. I don't know how else to describe it. Let me say that I am not a MB fan, but I would have sat through 2 hours of Ashlee Simpson just to hear Basia sing "Promises." That song nearly brought down the house. I would agree that this was a Basia crowd. There were many standing ovations for her and she did cry several times, especially after "Time and Tide." She also made a comment that it was obscene how long it had been since they were here last in Chicago. (Not an exact quote, but she did use the word obscene.) Her sister was cute, almost shy in her performance. The two sisters on each side of her seemed a bit more comfortable and playful with their funky "backup singer moves." This was my second time seeing Basia and I hope not my last. How lucky am I that I live near Chicago and got to see her again. I hope everyone on this list gets the chance to see her live someday. It is very difficult to put to words the effect it had on me. I gave a card to one of the crew and I hope she got it. It was just short and sweet thanking her for coming to Chicago, telling her how wonderful she is, and also telling her about this Internet family of fans. - -Sheryl ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 11:13:30 EDT From: J3SITE@aol.com Subject: Re: My 2 cents on Chicago Show! You might be surprised-- I can probably get something out of them. I've gotten video game screenshots that look almost black to have some sort of detail. If you want I can give it a shot! Sometimes it helps to actually use the auto focus and switch to the action mode if you have one on your camera. I thnk I know the cam you have, is it the C-5000? I almost bought the test model that we had in the office .It has a bit of a lag but I had fun with it! - --Leslie O. - --- Max Wellhouse wrote: > > Leslie: I couldn't get that darned camera out of > the 1/1000 of a sec speed > and a lot of them are just plain dark.
