Getting off work 2 hours early to make sure I get there. $2/gal is a PITA, but for Basia, I'll make an exception. Anyone else gonna be there? Will send in a report when I get home about 2AM or so. iIll be somewhere in the first 3 rows. I'm not as big a fan of it as I am of pretty much all of Basia's solo work. But it's got some catchy tunes. "Wrong Side Of The Street", for example, is catchy in spite of itself, for example. And besides, I'm thrilled to get anything with Basia on it after all these years. At this point I'd take a back-of-the-cereal-box cardboard cutout 45 of her doing the background vocals for "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies. So given that, I love Matt's Mood. But it ain't LWNY. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > JPovlock@aol.com > Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2005 11:29 PM > To: basia@smoe.org > Subject: Re: Newbie questions... > > > > What has been the general opinion of the new album? Schnaitter" Subject: Re: Newbie questions... Steve has pretty much got the same reaction as I have, perhaps I love MM a bit more than he. The thing for me is that I never thought of Basia's solo work as "smooth jazz." The rhythms and harmonies are too complex which is the second reason why I really love her solo work. The first reason is the sound and power of her voice! At times, listening to one of her CD's I wonder why I ever listen to anything else (but I do). I'm just not a fan of smooth jazz, in general, and Matt's Mood seems closer to that genre to me. The songs I like most on MM are those in which Basia's voice is the most dominant, but I like all of them a lot. - -Bill Steve O'Hearn wrote: > Great question. Ditto here with Steve's assessment. The "background vocals for the Archies" thought made me LOL, but I have to admit, I agree with that too! It is funny, that as a musician I really like smooth jazz, but have never really gotten "into" it. We had a radio station years ago that played nothing but, and I listened to it faithfully, but when it changed to "whatever", I just let it drop. I was very saddened to see it go, but never took it up again. (That's something else for my shrink to figure out!) :) Phil P.
