That is an excellent addition to the band! He has played with Swing Out Sister for some time, and is a very talented guitarist. He will fit in perfectly with this band. Only 12 days to Westbury! Would anyone be interested or know anyone interested in a ticket to the Cleveland show (April 10)? The ticket is for second-row center. I got myself in a little bind by buying two tickets, and I haven't been able to find a friend to go with me. I'm not really concerned about being reimbursed for the ticket, I would just like someone to use it so that it doesn't go wasted. If someone is interested, just e-mail me. One more week to go! I was on the Basia list ages ago and am thrilled to see that there's reason for it be to active again. Having just stumbled upon the news of the tour (yeah, I'm waaay out of the loop), I was hoping that someone could give me a few answers to some probably already asked questions. Does anyone have a set list for the tour? What has been the general opinion of the new album? I suspect that I will be in a minority on that issue. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I suspect that I will be in a minority on that issue. Actually, I wanted to ask that question myself. I suspect that everyone on this list has purchased the new CD by now. A lot of us purchased it as an import, and have listened to it for quite some time now. I don't recall reading much in the way of reviews on this list. I'm still formulating a final opinion on the CD, which will be forthcoming in a couple days. Otherwise, let's hear it from everyone else! Basia's solo music can largely be broken down into two broad categories (and obviously this is simplifying things quite a bit). There's the samba/Brazilian/jazzy Basia, and there's the R&B/pop/slightly Mo-townish Basia. On all three of her albums, I virtually always found myself skipping the former and loving the latter. Obviously this set me up for disappointment, given that I had little exposure to Matt Bianco. Basically, the new album is pleasant enough, there's no songs that I find bad; there just aren't any that stuck in my head even after two or three listens. Her vocals are gorgeous, there are definiately some great Basia "moments", but they don't rescue the songs for me. This is background music to my ear. Worse still, I absolutely can't stand Mark Reilly's voice. It's a nasally, buzz saw sound that grates on my nerves much like whoever sang lead on UB40's cover of Red Red Wine, a song that about drove me to murder. I'm seeing them in Cleveland this coming weekend and am looking forward to it, but definitely count me amongst those who wish she'd crank up the solo career again. - --- JPovlock@aol.com wrote: > > What has been the general opinion of the new album? > I > suspect that I will be in a minority on that issue. > > Actually, I wanted to ask that question myself. Fantastic. It's one of those "perfect" albums that if you change anything it would ruin everything. Perfect blend of voices and music, especially Wrong Side of the Street. The voices play off each other, rather than being a "duet," like Say the Words. I can't stop listening to it, and I got mine last August. I got the US version last Friday.
