Dave, You got kisses from the lady herself???? And lived to tell about it? And how will you EVER sleep again???? Wow! That had to be mind-blowing, no? :) Well, just about 2 weeks to go for me. SOOOOO, looking forward to it. Phil P. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Mar 2005 09:56:35 +0000 From: Chris.Gibbons@burberry.com Subject: Re: Tonights gig at Shepherds Bush - wow ! To answer 2 questions in one ... I think Basias solo stuff got much more of a response than say some of the MB. So to me, it felt like a Basia crowd. From the people I got to speak to, Basia was the one most of them came to see. I like many others, followed the Basia path more enthusiastically than the MB after WSAYO, however, am a fan of both, and it was a treat to see this line up playing together live for the first time here. If they did it again, I'd be there! From the front, it definately felt like the basia supporters area, apart from one young lad (born in the 80's) who new every word, to everything, and sang them (very well), very enthusiastically, all night. Anyone else feel this - or differently? Yes, Mark did boogie his little socks off! To me they really seemed to settle into the gig - almost as if they were a little nervous to start with. Baisa, especially - who really warmed up after her fisrt solo song. I like to think it was the reponse she got from us .... Feel the love! I'm glad others thought it sounded great ... From the front, you often miss the ideal mix, but the atmosphere is better (IMHO). I must thank Jazz FM for the chance to meet and greet, and was happy to take a couple of other listies with me. (do we have have a collective name for members of this list? - I stole that one from the Frenz list) To echo Daves comments, Basia was lovely. This was the 2nd time I have been lucky enough to meet her, and after she insisted on a kiss, she happily signed the photo I had of the two of us from last time. I had a nice chat with Danny too. He was telling me about family he has in New Zealand, which is where I'm from. He was happy to listen to my GOOYLB story (having been woken by it every morning by the local radio back in 84. Mark didn't have much to say, but was pleasant enough, and seemed very quiet, I didn't seem him slip away. The folks that ushered us upstairs were kind enough to give us a poster/program thing, that Basia, Danny and Mark could sign for us. I think I spotted a list of Band members in there, so Leslie, when I drag myself out of my (lazy) bed, I will get the details to the list ... It was big though: 2 brass, drums, percussion, the Mauritian twins on either side of Basias sister, bass guitar, lead guitar, and of course Keyboards (Danny), all behind Basia and Mark. I heard mention of Mark Fisher being in the crowd. Do we do H+P (hair and pants) reviews here ? Is anyone interested in what the were wearing ? Cast list to follow .... Phil, It was mind blowing! The whole backstage thing happened very fast, however after I got to speak to Basia, I let her into a small personal secret I have about Time and Tide and Cruising for Bruising. This seemed to melt her heart a little hence the several kisses!! Incidentally, the meet and greet was held in the backstage First Aid room! 20+ people crowded around a bed and sink. This was a little surreal to say the least but it did get a lot of people who had never met before talking to each other. As for sleeping, it was difficult to fall into slumberland in the early hours thinking about the night plus the 1.5 hour drive home always winds me up a little. I hope you have a fantastic time in two weeks. If I could be there I would. Now what are my Lottery numbers........ I would agree that the Basia songs got a greater response than MB's. The MB songs, especially the medley of MTICB, WSAYO and GOOYLB were well received. If I am honest, more of me wanted to see Basia than MB, however I have always wanted to see MB live so it was still a good night in all.
