I'm trying to figure out why this all seems so disorganized. I would expect a tour schedule to be complete before they arrive in the US. It's almost as if they are calling various venues to see if they have dates available. If I sound upset, it's because it looks like Buffalo was bypassed. Bummer. Hello Dennis. I agree that it was probably developed as they went along. I am lucky enough to have three venues; Long island, NYC and Atlantic city. Of cause I am satisfied to see her locally in LI but I agree she should have tried to get as much saturation as possible since its been almost 8 years since her last tour in the USA. I hope you are wrong. Denis with one "N" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2005 20:16:00 -0500 From: "Dennis J. Majewicz" Subject: OT: Pat Metheny I had the distinct pleasure of attending his concert Thursday evening in Buffalo. It was the kick-off of his current world tour. What a phenomenal show! The Buffalo News called it "astounding". Nearly three hours of non-stop music (no intermission). The first "song" was the entire album "The Way Up", his newest, and lasted about an hour and a quarter. It was truly a thrill to be in the same building with these extraordinary musicians. To be honest, some of the music was a little "out there" for me, a bit too progressive, but there was enough of a mix of his older compositions to satisfy everyone in the house. If you're a fan, and he has a show in your area, don't miss it. You won't be disappointed. The winter concert season has been an enjoyable one for us: Linda Eder in December, Yanni in January, Peter Cincotti (with the Buffalo Philharmonic Pops Orchestra) last week and Pat Metheny this week. We're hoping to see John Pizzarelli in June. I guess you can tell my interests are diverse... One of my friends had free tickets. I stayed til the end, she had to leave--and a three and a half hour concert it was, too. I'd never been to one that long. Boz Scaggs was 90 minutes, I think Basia was about 2 hours and that was it, with Spyro Gyra. Bobby Caldwell was only an hour, but that I think was a special thingy. It was a fantastic show, though. I really enjoyed it. Amy - -- "Dennis J. Majewicz" wrote: I had the distinct pleasure of attending his concert Thursday evening in Buffalo. It was the kick-off of his current world tour. Years ago I had a friend who's son was a student at Berklee in Boston, and we went down there for a concert. I was surprised to find out Metheny taught there, and he sat in on a couple of student- composed numbers. My most recent concert fave was Tracy Chapman in Hampton Beach, NH, last year. Talk about stage presence. It was two hours with no break. Phil H. On 20 Feb 2005 at 2:06, Amy ODonnell wrote: > > You're right--I saw him about 3 years ago here in Houston. My sister is also a big fan, and has been getting excited as I have been forwarding her emails about upcoming shows. At first, she was going to fly to NY and meet me for the Westbury show, until she realized that she and her husband were leaving for a cruise that day. Then she got excited as I told her about the other two shows in Florida (She lives in Clearwater). But when the Clearwater show was announced, I had to call her at work and tell her the news. Oddly enough, I was in Florida this past week. I visited my parents for a few days, who live an hour north of Tampa, and then I drove down to see Mary on Thursday evening. I think the Clearwater show was announced Tuesday. Well, you've never heard a 45 year old woman squeal like she did.OOPS - maybe I had better rephrase that last thought. Anyway, she got tickets right away, and they will be sitting in about the 12th row. There was also a nice picture of Basia, Danny, and Mark in the St Pete Times entertainment section. It was billed as Basia featuring Matt Bianco. Only 2 weeks 'til Westbury! Jim P. ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V10 #35 ***************************
