Subject: Re: very old tour dates > 7/9 - Seattle WA - Paramount theatre ...where the Until You Come Back To Me video was shot. :D > 8/7 - Detroit MI - Meadowbrook I remember this, dammit. I wanted to go SO BAD, but I was 13 and had to get parental endorsement, and my parents couldn't be bothered with my petty concerns. On the TSI tour, the Clarkston date was when I went and honestly I can say that they should have gone back to Meadowbrook (incidentally, in Rochester, another suburb). They were at Pine Knob, which is a huge ampitheatre and was filled with some of the most boring people known to man. Poor Basia was trying to get them up and they were just brain dead. But the actual fans there did our best to make up for it. :D I remember there was a couple at that show dancing up and down the aisles as well! Must be a thing. A big reason the crowd sucked so bad is that in order to fill Pine Knob, they will often give away free tickets en masse, mostly on the lawn. The boy I was dating (I was 17) got me a bunch. It was sweet. So I vastly prefer smaller venues where fans can really enjoy themselves. Not to take a darn thing away from the show however-- it was beyond amazing and remains my best show ever to date, and I have seen some good stuff on stage! My one regret, though: ushers were selling roses and people were going up to the stage to give them to Basia. I decided to get shy and I really wish I hadn't done that. (IRL I actually am a fairly shy person, particularly then!) Dammit. I also didn't know that she is really appreciative of fan stuff like that, so maybe had I known I wouldn't have been so intimidated. Hardly had an internet then, at least in my world! A lot of you guys were here, then! And if anyone is interested in writing more cohesive accounts of their concert experiences, I'll gladly put them up on that section of BasiaWeb when I build it. It would be really cool. - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. I remember too how weird it was seeing jet aricraft taking off from Logan behind the stage. A great view of the Boston skyline, too. Also, for her encores Basia went backstage and changed into that shimmering metal-tag outfit, which brought awed gasps from the audience. Yes that was '94, but the date I was guessing for '90 was based on a gap in tom & kelly's '90 summer tour list. I doubt I have any ticket stubs to verify the existence of Boston on that tour. Phil H. Openning act was Spyro Gyra and they played a too short 45 minute set that was wonderful. It was Danny's birthday that very lovely August evening and they all sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Basia's back up singers were twin sisters from, of all places, Mauritius. Probably the most emotional concert I have ever attended and a moment I will never forget. Both Basia and a good part of the audience were in tears on several occasions that night. It was an amazing, powerful, and moving show. Peter White was so humble to just stand back and be one of the boys in the band. No ego whatsoever. Hard to believe, but it was clear that Danny is even more shy than Basia. I believe that the B.O.B. shows were recorded just a few days later in New York. I'd have to say that was Basia's finest hour. It would be nice to think there is better to come, but that might! > be greedy on my part. I will always be happy for the memory - it's still fresh and vivid ;-) I believe your date is correct, but in '94, not '90(if you were referring to the Neil Simon Theater shows). I still have the reviews from the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald somewhere. I had them tacked on my refrigerator for several years (!!). The Herald review was glowing and reflected my feelings. The Globe review was written by Hiawatha Bray and was incredibly snobby. He reviews Tech for the Globe and somehow got the concert review byline that night. I still get mad thinking about how crass his review was. I keep hoping I can let that go someday.
