Basia wrote me a two page letter also including lyric sheets, a bio,and this other note from her personal assistant, Mandy Crane. Dear Thomas, Enclosed please find a schedule of basia's summer tour '90 US tour. If you do not find a venue near you, don't worry - Basia is planning a return to the states for another tour dur to start late September 1990. Joyce and I attended, which must have been 1990, because she asked the crowd who had attended the first tour, when they had more old material than new, which we had not attended. This was the London, Warsaw & New York tour. The 1994 venue was the tent on the pier overlooking Boston Harbor, which we also attended, the Sweetest Illusion tour, and she mentioned the next night they would be playing the Neil Simon Theater in NYC. I should have written it down in my diary, but damn, I don't keep a diary. My guess it was 8/15/90. Phil H. She wore the same outfit on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the tight fitting golden jacket over the short golden skirt. I always have thought Basia has an athletic, fit, figure. Merry was one of the backups, who she observed was "prettier" than she. She and Peter performed an acoustic 'From Now On', truly a classic. I will never forget it. Phil H. The '94 tour had her in Shea's Performing Arts Center in the city of Buffalo, a grand old restored movie palace - an outstanding venue. That one I did attend. To get to it, go to the Performances & Events page, hit any one of the dates highlighted in one of the calendars, hit the "Buy Tickets" link to the right of the colanders for any artist chosen. That takes you to the Ticket buying site. Hit the "Event Schedule" link in the middle of the screen, which will take you to a screen where you will have to choose the month on the left-hand side (April). Matt Bianco is listed on the page, but you are unable to buy tickets until 11:00am on Friday. Hopefully I can still get good tickets by 12:00 when I hit my lunch break! A really great venue. Openning act was Spyro Gyra and they played a too short 45 minute set that was wonderful. It was Danny's birthday that very lovely August evening and they all sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Basia's back up singers were twin sisters from, of all places, Mauritius. Probably the most emotional concert I have ever attended and a moment I will never forget. Both Basia and a good part of the audience were in tears on several occasions that night. It was an amazing, powerful, and moving show. Peter White was so humble to just stand back and be one of the boys in the band. No ego whatsoever. Hard to believe, but it was clear that Danny is even more shy than Basia. I believe that the B.O.B. shows were recorded just a few days later in New York. I'd have to say that was Basia's finest hour. It would be nice to think there is better to come, but that might be greedy on my part. I will always be happy for the memory - it's still fresh and vivid ;-) I believe your date is correct, but in '94, not '90(if you were referring to the Neil Simon Theater shows). I still have the reviews from the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald somewhere. I had them tacked on my refrigerator for several years (!!). The Herald review was glowing and reflected my feelings. The Globe review was written by Hiawatha Bray and was incredibly snobby. He reviews Tech for the Globe and somehow got the concert review byline that night. I still get mad thinking about how crass his review was. I keep hoping I can let that go someday. Oh, well. Thanks for bringing back some very nice memories ;-) Cheers, Bill - -------------- Original message -------------- > > tom & kelly for sure there is the date for Boston, the Orpheum Theater, missing > from > your otherwise thorough list. Strange day...drove the 200 miles to Phoenix with my friend Glenn and his wife...left our hotel for the show and ran into a bizarre downtown Phoenix dust storm...could barely make out the taillights of a car 10 feet in front of us. Made it to the Celebrity Theater with 10 minutes to spare...only to see the marquis reading "Basia...8 PM...CANCELLED." Illness...Basia herself was sick, I am told. So depressed we drove back to the hotel and drank until sunrise. Not real mature, but what can I say. The GOOD memories...Basia and band (and Ottmar Liebert) rescheduled not one but two shows in mid-November 1990 in Phoenix. Much better weather in Phoenix in November. Incredible shows...met Basia and Danny...asked them to play "Half a Minute" for me at the 2nd show (they complied). Steve R. P.S. Walked into Big 5 store today, first song they played after I came in...Cruising for Bruising.
