It's good to hear from you. I heard about the tragedy on Sunday morning, but didn't have computer access right away. At first I didn't even know it was near you at all. Then I heard the full report, with a list of the countries affected. It's sad that so many lost their lives in this disaster. It's another reminder that no matter how advanced we become, we'll never tame Mother Nature. At best we can work to get through what is thrown at us, and hope we aren't caught in the middle of it. At last count, I heard that over 14,000 people lost their lives as result of this most recent event. But by now that number may be higher. It's hard to comprehend tragedy on such a large scale. ABC Nightline last night showed some bizarre home video footage from Sri Lanka, but I don't think it begins to show anything of what happened. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > Barry > Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 10:01 AM > To: basia@smoe.org; basia2@yahoogroups.com > Subject: RE: Desianto OK? > > > > It's good to hear from you. Like I said, I can't even imagine that many people being killed at once. Diseases don't kill that fast. Lot of Americans were in that number, as well as a number of Brits. Today's Mirror reports that Sir Richard Attenborough lost 3 family members. But really, it doesn't matter whether they are celebrities or not--way too many people lost their lives and their families, and it could have been either mitigated or prevented. Checked my agenda for that week and have no appointments yet, so I took the bold step of ordering a ticket. Is anybody else here going?
