Hello all, I hope everybody is fine. Sorry for not writing so long because I have been quite busy in the last days. OK all, to fill the quiet days in our list, I have a thought and I want to share it with you. I named this "If only-" thought. If only Basia were 30's in 1950's, and she lived in the USA, she would be very popular because of her song "Come to Heaven" because this song is the perfect example of "Doo Wop" style, which was very popular in the USA at that time. Her poster would be everywhere and she would be offered to play some characters in some classic movies, co-starring the movie legends, such as, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, etc.. If only Basia were 30's in 1960's and lived in the USA, she would be very popular with her songs, "Forgive And Forget", "Miles Away", and maybe "How Dare You" because of the rising of rhythm and blues and swing jazz at that time. But if she lived in Brazil, she would be very popular as one of the Bossa-Nova pioneers together with Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz, and Astrud Gilberto. And maybe she would star the movie "Get Yourself a College Girl" with Astrud Gilberto. If only Basia were 30's, or maybe mid 20's, in 1970's, she would be very popular with the song "The Prayer of a Happy Housewife" because IMHO this song has the 1970's style. Or, maybe she would sing disco? It's possible, isn't it? Next, Basia was indeed late 20's to 30's in 1980's so I won't tell you anything. You all know better than I do. If only Basia were teenager or early 20's in 1990's, she would make some of teenager singers envy of her success because of her song "Go For You". IMHO, this song has the characteristic of teenager song, with a better quality, of course. If only Basia were teenager in 2000's, well, honestly, I don't know what to say because I don't follow the latest trend in music industry lately. My ears just don't fit the rhythm and rhyme of the latest music, so forgive me. Thankfully, she is late 40's and early 50's so she can keep her special style without being influenced by the latest trend. What is the conclusion? I think, Basia's music is timeless. I mean, if you have a time machine and you have your Basia collection with you, then you go to 1950's era and play "Come to Heaven", probably, people of that era would accept it quite easily. Or if you go to the year 2050, they would think that it's classic. One more, if only Basia were 20's in 2000's and lived in Indonesia, I think she would make some shampoo commercials on TV because straight-long black/dark hair is very popular now, in Indonesia.... :-) BTW, Matt's Mood is sold for US$ 7.8 for audio CD and US$ 2.5 for tape in Indonesia, all is original, brand new. Quite cheap, eh? Czesc, Desianto F. W. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start. In less than a week the number has grown from 34 to almost 3,000. The map showing who has signed it and where will be presented to President Bush in the near future. From the Selective Service website: On October 5, 2004, the House of Representatives voted 402 - 2 to defeat H.R. 163, the bill cited as proof that the Selective Service was preparing to reinstate a military draft. The vote made official what has been a reality since January 7, 2003, when H.R. 163 was introduced despite nearly total opposition in Congress to restoring the draft. Without Congressional support, the draft cannot be reinstated. A similar bill languishes in the Senate. Both President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry have stated for the record that they oppose a draft. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld also has opposed the draft on numerous occasions. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2004 21:01:15 -0400 From: pineking@gwi.net Subject: RE: Six on the bags No, this is Clockwork Orange speak.
