Hmmm... I didn't notice that at all. Just saw it again. I think they all said they like Wrong Side best. What did suprise me was that they didn't choose Ordinary Day-- all the press material seems to imply that they had, but no. Someone commented that Basia must not like Miami Sound Machine-- I don't think she meant that she did or did not like it but rather that was kinda what people thought of when they thought of Latin music (I don't get why she has just noticed that Jobim and Gilberto et al are popular again-- they've been so for years, since they released that Jobim box set in the mid-'90s. I dunno, maybe it is different in England) Yeah, and about Danny talking-- wow, this is the most we've heard from him since The Sweetest Interview. I was actually impressed at Basia's restraint-- having been the mouthpiece for her and Danny for so long, she tended to take over when they were both interviewed (This is Danny's fault for hiding out so much early on, IMHO) . She seems to have settled into the group dynamic. I have to admit, they look like completely different people in their ordinary day mode (har har har) than they did in the OD video. Golly, what did they do to them before *that* shoot?! ;-) I also thought it was great with that "why did you break up" question that after Mark gestured over to Basia, he and her had a good laugh. That's cool. All is right with the world. - --Leslie Tired of spam? Yahoo! Basia and Danny were an item. I think Basia didn't feel she was a real part of the group - just a backup singer, and she wanted a solo career. Of course, that solo career pulled Danny along, too, so essentially the group broke up leaving Mark to reformat Matt Bianco. un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Aug 2004 13:43:43 -0500 From: Bill Roberts Subject: Re: _Ordinary_video I don't think so. You probably already tried using the one for the other player, right? I had no problems with my broadband or on my work's (shh) T1 with the Windows one, but usually Real works better anyway. From memory: the interviewer said he was going to ask a very boring question, but he had to know why they broke up. Mark then gestured over to Basia and they laughed. In a nutshell Basia said that she didn't speak English well enough in the beginning and just sang her parts, but she later realized that she wanted to write and be creative too. She said she wasn't even signed to the label, she just had an agreement with Danny and Mark. She said she decided to go on her own and at that time Danny was her boyfriend so he went with her. She is pretty blunt about this and doesn't walk around it, though she does chuckle a little. I imagine I'll be transcribing this for the site anyway at some point for those in the same boat. :-) - --Leslie Tired of spam? Yahoo! No one in the performing arts is a sure thing, but if she isn't led down the wrong musical path (David Foster is okay to start a career, but I think he's a boring producer) she should be around a long time. In case there's any suspicion Renee's voice is studio-enhanced, I will say I saw her perform live the past two years at the Playboy Jazz Festival. In 2003 she (then 13!) brought the house down with a one-song performance, then this year (just turned 15) returned for a longer performance and an equally warm reception. Just an incredible voice, and I think a real nice style already, which is sure to improve as she grows into her voice. By the way, I got to meet Renee and her mom after her performance, and she seems to be a delightful young lady. I get the feeling she's really enjoying herself - not at all being pushed to be a star. To answer your questions: 1) Probably not - I doubt Basia's voice was ever technically as good as Renee's...and I doubt Basia had developed her incredible style of singing at that young an age. 2) Unfair question - if Basia never sang another note I'd still be listening to her 10 years from now...until my ears quit working, in fact! Too hard to predict what Renee will be like in 10 years...she may be the next Barbra Streisand...may turn into (heaven help us) the next Britney Spears! Or may give up music and stick to acting. Let's enjoy what she is today instead of expecting too much from her a decade from now.
