It was strange to see the host singing with the band, but I think they needed the extra voice. I agree that Basia's mic was too low. All in all, I'm excited about a live show with this group. The band arrangements were good, and we saw enought to know that at least "Ordinary Day" is performable live. You never know sometimes when the recorded version is as overdubbed and chorused as this album is. I'm sure they'll have backup singers as Basia always has. It was interesting to hear Mark say this was their first live performance ever. I thought they had performed as Matt Bianco somewhere back in 1984. After seeing the eskimo-kuss, I'm thinking of dressing in all black and shaving my head. un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 2004 10:17:42 -0700 (PDT) From: "Leslie O." Yup. http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp2/videoclips/date/1984/ Oh, and I liked how Anke told Basia it was an honor to sing with her. :-) - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The other 25% is needing a bit more working out her voice before the tour, but since she hasn't sang live in TEN YEARS I'm inclined to give her a break. In '94 I remember settling down to watch her on the Tonight Show. And really, it was the same deal-- bad sound, not especially a good night... I remember thinking, oh crap, can it be, my hero not being in good form anymore? Obviously, I needn't have worried; she was effing fantastic on that tour. So I'm not worried now. > Did she lost 'it'? NO. EMPHATICALLY NO. > She was cheating a lot to make the songs sound > right. Was a little bit > frightning... Cheating? How so? How does one cheat with their voice? I watched this again today (great with my little bowl of cereal) and I noticed it again: someone who was maybe a little shy and uncertain but who found legs again midway through the last song. Sorry, I know it wasn't the mindblowing awesome performance we've all had playing in our minds the past ten years, but I'm abandoning my usual cynical self and being 100% loyal on this one. Have faith, young Padawan. ;-) - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Messenger - Communicate in real time. Today I was watching On Air with Ryan Seacrest, and the live performance wasn't that great at all. (The artist wasn't that great IMO, but I know she usually sounds better than she did today.) I've noticed that with a lot of talk shows. I think a part of the problem is that the studios have poor acoustics, they aren't designed for live musical performances, they're designed for talk shows. Also, my guess is that the people behind the scenes don't have a good background in running the sound for a live performance. That combination (bad studio, not so good technicians) causes even the greatest singer to have their bad moments. I'm so not worried about Basia, she will be as strong as ever for a very long time.
