O'Donnell" Subject: Basia in Romancing the Buddha Hi, Y'all I've been reading all the recent comments on Basia and Matt Bianco, and have been meaning to mention this to everyone. I just finished a book called Romancing the Buddha by Michael Lisagor (Xlibris, 2003.) To my surprise, on page 89, in a chapter discussing Dialogue and Diversity, he puts a passage from The Sweetest Illusion: And the cup that appeared half empty Has become a cup that is half full Where there was a space there now is plenty You're a lucky sign ascending No one does for me whaat you do. - --Basia, The Sweetest Illusion I was eating my lunch at the time and almost choked! It's an interesting book giving experiences as well as a primer on Nichiren Buddhism. Of course, I've been practicing Nichiren's Buddhism for 18 years. . .so that's how I came across this book, in the Houston SGI-USA Community Center bookstore. You also can find it on Amazon.com, or you can see a little of it on www.romancingthebuddha.com. He's also a pretty funny guy, despite the things he's been through, detailed in the book (and how this Buddhism helped him overcome every obstacle successfully.) And I can't believe he knows who Basia is!!! Thanks for listening. They had the CD by Nellie McKay, "Get Away From Me," (by the way, one of my favorite albums of the past year) on a featured display this month. They always have a short blurb about the artist, and including in the blurb for Nellie was the comment: "Compare to Basia." As I say, it's a wonderful, funny, imaginative album, with a wide variety of styles, but I never would have chosen our Basia as a point of comparison to Nellie McKay.
