It's way cool honestly to have a partner into whatever you're into in a lot of ways-- my husband and I are both designers and artists and we get a lot of inspiration from just talking about what we are doing, which in turn leads to cool new stuff.... Something that I thought when I first got the album was that people all the time want to work with their brother or their husband/partner/whatever -- and a lot of times this is an uber bad idea. But how cool is it to have the brother be one of theeee smooth jazz guitarists out there, and husband/partner/whatever be one of the top horn men in the UK? How lucky are they!? > Danny's playing and writing have improved, too. > Again, more subtlety. I would love to see him head up a jazz trio or quartet or something of his own and record an album. His playing on Matt's Mood really hints at so much more... Oh man, Danny and Kevin and maybe a couple other players on a jazz album-- hey, a girl can dream, right? While I'm doing just that-- how 'bout a Kevin solo album with Basia doing a straight jazz vocal, improv, scat and all? C'mon, we all know they could pull it off. Kevin's been around for far too long anyway without making something on his own. > The only thing I found a bit disappointing was Mark > Reilly's vocals - not that > they are bad, he just doesn't seem to have grown as > much musically as Basia > and Danny. I like the way his voice blends with > Basia's very much, > particularly when they are singing as a duet, and > the alternating chorused > scat singing they do at points works very well. I liked his sassy vibe on Kaliedoscope-- would love to hear more in that vein. Agreed that they sound great together-- yet they also contrast nicely, as Basia sounds more serious and emotive while Mark sounds more spunky and has more 'tude. The thing that kinda sucks in a way for Mark, and I imagine it must have been this way for the first album, is that Basia just naturally commands more attention than Mark does. > As much as I'd like to hear another Basia solo > album, I'd also like to hear > more from this group. Agreed! This hints at a lot of good stuff coming up the pike from all, or at least one hopes so. - --Phillette __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Subject: Spanish interview I'm just going to start double posting these. Since I know no languages, there's a better chance someone on M-B will have actual means to translate. Besides, why let the Basia ML have all the fun? :-) Here's the link, cached from Google: http://tinyurl.com/3ahds And for those like me who are monolingual, the article run through Google's pseudo-translator, which obviously sucks: This first success out followed ' Sneaking to him the back door', both singles which on' commanded their debut with the long duration ' Whose side plows you, with which "a loaded time of emotions began, that now we want to recover", explained Basia, that remembers like its companions, Mark and Danny, that came from the group Blue Rondo To the Turk in the 80, "began to write together songs, saw that they needed a voice and they called me to my '". They have been twenty years of work in group, "with bumps", and although Mark maintained the name of the band next to Mark Reilly, with which go recorded ' World round', and the rest has experimented in solitaire, all had "together desire to do something". "the encounter - Mark- says arose from pure chance. Encounter produced during in study between Danny and I, that we thought that why not to return to make something together and as it seemed to us the idea well, we called to Basia and, when also agreeing, we decided to put to us in march ". "the three we knew very clearly the idea to make a disc fresh and that gave the sensation of which always we had been united", Danny commented, for that ' Matt's Mood' is a "very pop disc for the lovers of the jazz and very jazz for the lovers of the pop one, and is loaded of privacy". Own tribute With the title ' Matt's Mood' (Universal), those of Matt Bianco occur to themselves a tribute, recovering the title of two of his first instrumental compositions ' Matt's Mood M and ' Matt's Mood IM, "establishing therefore a species of connection between the beginnings and the return. It is a jazz title very, that reflects very well what people are going away to find when listening to it, as it happens with the cover, with all around the piano ". For Basia, "if we compared the first works and the new one, I remain with this one. Then we practically did not know ourselves anything, all we came from other bands and our labor relation had been very small, although Mark and I had made a pair of together things. Now, everything has been easier and has left rolling ". To which Mark adds that "in a personal view we know much and that is good for the important group and for the work, and I can say that after to have made this disc we know ourselves far better". Opened to the technology Musically speaking, to Matt Bianco twenty years ago "it worried the amplifiers much to them and tecno, to look for sounds different from which it took", now prefers "the organic thing", although they say to be "open to the technology". "As far as the hour to compose - the things comment have changed much, now easier and are amused, thanks to the computers, and are fantastic to arrive at the study done and knowing yet as it is going to sound definitively". "To me it fascinates to see in the pantallita the sound to me turned images. And I recognize that, although I am less espabilada with the machines, the three we have composed and soon we have including the voices ", assures Basia. Matt Bianco does not have "new influences consciously", but they affirm that "evidently you let yourself take reason why you like and what listening, which this clear one is that we wanted to very make a disc of jazz and that we have returned to have left, that yes, if people accept to us", in fact prepare a tour for October and November, with that they will come to Spain. Mark Reilly that in 1997 next to Mark Fisher recorded ' World go around', in which mixed pop and Latin rates, explained that Fisher "is working in an album in solitaire, but we do not have much relation". - --Leslie, doing a great job avoiding work...aargh __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Okay, it's an open-air event but you get the idea. Then I got to thinking, Matt Bianco would do pretty well there too. Has anyone read anything about MB doing any live shows? Even a TV appearance? Granted it would probably be in Europe but that would be something to see. One performer I really enjoyed was the Brazilian singer, Katia Moraes. I wasn't familiar with her music, but I thought she was great - I even bought her live CD and spoke to her for a moment after the show. She did a couple of great sambas. Also enjoyed the short performance by the incredibly talented 15-year old Renee Olstead. I knew her first as the daughter on the "Still Standing" TV series, but she's a fantastic singer. She's the real deal, and hopefully she will pursue her gifts as a jazz singer, and not get led down the middle-of-the-road, Celine Dion path to big record sales and lots of boring records. Also met Renee and her mom after her performance - Renee is just a charming young lady. After 10 hours of jazz each day, I listened to Matt's Mood each night - it's already my favorite album of 2004, and it gets better with each listen.
