Bloomberg provided a special computer that was able to search Bloomberg's entire data base. I used to look through the entertainment stuff. On it, I found a story from Japan that Sony was dropping a lot of artists who did not sell well. I never saw the story reported elsewhere. I speculated on this list that one of the artists would be Basia. The know-it-all Roach argued it could not be so. I think she was dropped. The Clear Horizons CD has all the signs of a final album to clear a contract - lots of old material and the few new songs were rather inexpensively produced (small band, lots of synths). I would suspect the problem with releasing her solo material is that she does not have a record deal - nor does she have a distribution deal. I wish she would consider some kind of on-line distribution. She may find she likes controlling all aspects of her career and not having to fool with record companies. un abrazo, juan *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 5/25/2004 at 2:17 PM Leslie Osborn wrote: >> Ah, a possible legal problem with her solo career. >> I never considered >> that. She says that she was in a huge state of depression after her mom died that just kept getting worse and worse. She tried to make an album but didn't like the results. Something is mentioned about the record company stuff but not enough was discernable for me to understand what it was. She says something to the effect that she felt like she was failing everybody and finally just cut herself off from everyone. She also said that she spent a lot more time in Jaworzno and her and her sister worked on the house there a lot because it was in bad shape, and that was good to occupy her time a bit. She said it was like a huge dark cloud over her for a long time. This end of this interview really bums me out and I'm hoping the actual translation sounds better than this. :( - --She said Danny bugged her a lot about working again and it took her a long time to not be so stubborn about it. She says he was very patient with her. She also said that starting to work with Danny and Mark last year (?) turned her on to working with music software and she couldnt believe that she could manipulate sound waves, and that she could even see them graphically. She says that this fired her up and inspired her, and got her out of the depression she was in. She also said that this renewed spirit of hers was inspiring Kevin too and that he was writing more as well! - --She says now that she looks forward to performing again starting in October and that it has been 9 or so years since she'd been on stage. She also is worried, though, about the reception they are going to get in England, will people laugh at an old band coming back, or will they think they are jumping on the Norah Jones/Diana Krall bandwagon. - --Finally, she says that she is more concerned about making music than anything related to it and doesnt care about being some big star. She says that she admires people like Aretha Franklin that keep doing their thing, but doesn't get people like Madonna who change their persona so much that you don't even know who they are anymore. So yeah, that's my take. A true translation will be even better of course. - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Har har har. - --Of course the theme is, Where the heck have you been? Basia talks at length about this. Sounds like alot of work to do that. :-P Naw-- the most work I had to do was put it into Word so it could be in all caps, which I guess is what Poltran requires. Weird! Oh, and it required me to talk a lot-- not hard to do as you may have guessed! ;-D - --Leslie who wonders what Basia's flavor of Mac is, or if she uses Panther. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
