Hi, fellow Basia fans - Haven't written in ages, but have been lurking, and of course I am thrilled that we will be hearing more of Basia soon! However, in all this talk about the new MB album, I'm surprised that Danny White isn't mentioned at all...wasn't he an original member of Matt Bianco too? And, I thought that the other listie who got the info from Peter & Danny's mom on the cruise said that it was Danny and Basia that were working on new material... Just curious! Mondony, merci beaucoup pour le foto! (pardon my bad french...) Joanna P.S. Paul, I think the release date is May 21 (according to Mondony's website) P.S.S. Desianto, where are you? I really enjoy your posts and I must say, you have helped breathe new life into this list! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2004 05:50:53 -0500 From: "Kamille" Subject: Re: Hurray...a photo !!! I preordered mine from that website with the new Diana Krall CD (the Japanese version has two extra tracks on it), and with the "economy shipping" it might've cost me about 60 dollars total or something. Granted I won't get them both until a few weeks after the release date supposedly . . . . raburabu joe ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2004 06:43:26 -0700 (PDT) From: "Desianto F. It seems that he read the archive many times and thankfully, he also has his own great experience with Basia. Here's his first letter for me. I include my reply among his words. ================================================================ > Hi Desianto F.W., Hi Piotr, (or Piotr Bialy if you're Peter White...:-).. it's clear that I have to add plug-in for Polish characters... soon...) > I have never joined the list but from time to time tried to > read the messages. So...It won't be a letter addressed to > Basia...as the one from the guy from LA ;) At least, you can keep me away from that "100 letters" to go so I'm still 100 letters away from the plan of "changing sex"..:-) because if you thought that I'm Basia, it would be 99...(just kidding) > I have not meet that many Basia's fans. I've been a fan of her > since I was at least 10 or 11...(now I'm 22) but it was not > that easy to find people listening to Basia and being my age. If you were in the list, you may be the youngest lister. Right now, the record is held by Krystyna (23, going to be 24 next September). The first time I heard (not listened to because I didn't pay much attention to her at that time) Basia was when I was 12. > I saw her once in concert in Poland in 1994. I was speechless > and absolutely amazed. Stayed just near the stage and during > the show I gave her my letter. She stopped for a while with > microphone and surprisingly said "Oh I got a letter...I will > read it later":). I was so happy... and since then I've been > even a bigger fan. In Warsaw? In September? If yes, how many days did the concert last? If it was only one day concert, you probably went to the same concert as Krystyna did. I'll ask her later... > About me: I am currently studying in England although I'll be > back to Poland in about week time. I thought it would be great > to meet someone who (just like me) likes Basia and her music > and share some more ideas about it. Yes, it's great to know (or meet? which one will be 'greater'?) that there are many Basia's serious fans. Before joining the list, I had no idea that her fans are many, though the number can't be compared to other 'usual' singers/artists. Well, quality never comes in a big number, doesn't it? About sharing ideas, it would be better if we have something new, however, with these old things, we can survive with many crazy ideas....:-) Sometimes I feel that we're a big family rather than a fans club.... BTW, Where do you live in England? London? Unfortunately, you'll be home in a few days because if you were still in England for a longer time, I could ask Krystyna to contact you because she'll be in London next week but she hasn't got any clues about where she's going to live and what she's going to do for a part time job. > By the way - do you come from NYC? If so, what part? Mmmm... not close enough. I'm very far away rom NYC, about 14 time zones away to the West. I'm in Indonesia, Central Java, Semarang for exactly. BTW, where is your hometown in Poland? > Hope I will hear from you soon, You got your wish....:-) > Yours, > > Piotr (Peter) Czesc, Desianto F. W. Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! I put his letter below but I don't include my reply because, IMHO, his letter is so valuable and I don't want to ruin it with my "stupid" reply. =============================================================== Hi Desianto once again (is it your real name:)))? Sounds very interesting. Yeah Piotr B might stand for Piotr Bialy...:)) ...but not in my case, though. I am amazed that you know some Polish words... Where did you learn them? You said you first heard of Basia when you were 12. Was she popular in Indonesia? Have you ever been to any of her shows? As to my experience with seeing Basia live, she came to Poland in September 1994. She really wanted to play in Poland but until then never had the chance. The relations of our currency at that time to the costs of the performance were extremerly different. But 1994 was very successful for Basia. People knew about her but none really had the chance to see her live. There was a man in radio who promoted her from the very beginning. He is one of the most popular radio presenters in Poland and a friend of her. He interviewed her a few times, definetely on Basia's 41st Birthday in 1995, when Basia on Broadway was to be released and in 1998 when she came to Poland to promote The Best Of. In September 1994 Basia came to Poland to play 7 or 8 concerts in the biggest cities of Poland. She performed with the whole band and gave the show pretty similar to the one recorded on Basia on Broadway. It was part of the Sweetest Illusion World Tour. There were few additional tracks that were not included on the cd live version and which Basia performed in Poland. I think these were The Sweetest Illusion, My Cruel Ways, Run For Cover and Prime Time TV. She gave the concerts in Warsaw, Katowice, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Szczecin, Lodz, Krakow and Poznan... I might be wrong about one of the names. The concert I went to was in Poznan, since I live on the very west of Poland. The media introduced her as an artist who was coming with first official visit to Poland after 14 years of not being there. In fact, Basia was travelling there from time to time but she never gave any official interviews and tv appearances. 1994 changed that. Media were very interested in her. I remember the very first interview from Okecie Airport in Warsaw. She was surrounded by tv cameras and photographers. She has just arrived in Poland. People asked her questions and her manager tried to stand in front of her almost like a bodyguard. She was explaining that he asked her not to talk much because since she talks that much she might lose the voice and powers for the concert. She tried to almost brake through her managers' arms to talk to the press and brake the promises she gave him earlier. It was nice. Her concert in Poznan was incredible. The one that took place in Warsaw was recorded by national TV and broadcasted a few weeks later. When I was back home for Christmas a few weeks ago I saw it once again from the videotape and in spite of 10 years I still perceive it as a very good performance. Day later (after Pozan's show) Basia was turning 40. When someone from the audience started to sing Sto Lat (which is like Happy Birthday but rarely can be also used to show the respect to the person) Basia answered that her Birthday was the next day. So the whole audience sang Sto Lat a few times. She was so happy. On Basia's Birthday as she said later, she went to Lodz where one of her concerts was to take place. Danny and whole band rented the restaurant and organized a surprise party for her. So that's how it went with the concerts in Poland. Basia has never performed live there again. In 1998 she came just for 2-3 days but her visit had only promotional purpose. When asked for any show, she said she wouldn't feel well to sing the same material (as on the Sweetest Illusion Tour) again. She added she was working on a new cd. As to England, I am studying geography although I am more into urban planning. Back in Poland I am still enrolled in the university and came to England for one semester. It's a scholarship so I didn't have to cover tuition fees, however had to cover living expenses. Life is extremerly expensive. I don't know what's the average salary in Indonesia. In here however I pay seven times more for the room than I would have to pay in Poland. In spite of that it is very interesting place and I don't regret being here at all. I will write more about it next time. I stay in Portsmouth, 2 hours way from London. London is a very interesting place to live. I wish I could help Krystyna. There are many Polish people living in London though. Whenever I go there I hear Polish language everywhere. Unfortunately never seen Basia. I agree it would be pretty fortunate to see her there. London is such a huge area with millions of people living there. But I cross fingers for Krystyna. Maybe she'll be more lucky in meeting Basia. Finding a job in London shouldn't be a problem. What I would advise Krystyna is to believe in herself and her language abilities and try to find the job within British environment. For me it was a bit tougher to find it but there are 20 thousands students in my town and only 170 thousands citizens. A lot of students were looking for part time employment so the number of jobs was very limited. London should be different. Desianto, I hope we will keep in touch. Hope I will also hear from you soon. Cheers as they say here, Czesc:) Yours, Piotr ============================ Well, that's all about how I met Piotr. Desianto F. W. Matts Mood is a track with rythms jazz and latino. Slip and sliding reminds some Antonio Carlos Jobim musics and La Luna is a cha-cha. Wrong Side of the street sounds like a blues, an hommage to Nina Simone, a great artist who died in France last year. Great!!!!!!!!
