I hear his music played a lot on Sirius satellite radio - mostly pop standards from the "Come Rain Or Come Shine" release from a few years ago. He also was a guest DJ recently on the Standard Time and Totally 70's streams. Sounded very comfortable, too. I didn't hear any mention of new material, though. They were played at concerts in the last six months or so, and clips were on the website at one time. So far, I love Call Me, but of course I only heard that 30 second clip. When I saw him in Austin last year, he wasn't even playing the new stuff, that came later. That concert had been postponed from 4 months prior, due to studio time constraints. He must be a perfectionist. . .that new CD has been "coming soon" for over a year now. I know about the Sirius guest dj spot, I never seem to be around to catch it. Glad to know they play his music. I now have all of his CD's (as well as Basia's.) He has a huge body of work, and it's fantastic, especially the later work. On Mon, 19 Apr 2004 07:48:40 -0400 "Dennis J. I was kind of dissapointed with Rod Stewart's recent albums because all I hear is his voice and not the classic songs he's singing. Linda Ronstadt on the other hand did a fantastic job on her work with Nelson Riddle in the 80's. > He must be a perfectionist. . .that new CD has been "coming soon" for > over a year now. Sounds like Basia. We've been waiting for the latest one for, what, 10 years now? Dennis ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 10:14:14 -0500 From: "Amy T. I heard him sing something with Cher on that CD. Much as I like Cher, it just didn't work for me. Sad thing is that people BOUGHT his "Songbook" CD's, when there is much better out there. Linda Rondstadt's efforts were very good, but I don't know if she's done more since then. Bobby Caldwell grew up with big band music, his parents were both in showbiz. He's one of the best, but seems like nobody knows his music outside of "What you won't do for love." Shame--like Basia, he's fantastic, but lesser known than Diana Krall or Luther Vandross. I highly recommend his two "Timeline Anthology" CD's, his "greatest hits." Great place to start, along with his big band CD's. I prefer BC's version of "Beyond The Sea" to Bobby Darin's--but I guess that's a highly biased opinion, too. He has a website, www.bobbycaldwell.com, and more information is available there. It's updated occasionally, but also contains links to other BC-related info. Glad to know others like Bobby--and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of them! I know I'm one of the older members on the list - to me Rod Stewart is forever "Gasoline Alley" and "Stay With Me", rocking out with the Faces. To me, the era when he ruled top 40 radio was a dreadful sell-out compared to his great work in the late 60's and early 70's. I saw Bobby Caldwell at the Playboy Jazz Festival a few years back, the first summer after Frank Sinatra passed away. He came on for one tune, with a big band and sang one of Frank's signature tunes. He was brilliant and it was a great tribute to Sinatra without a word being said. Steve R. Amy said: I agree--Rod Stewart is forever in my mind "Hot Legs" and "D'ya Think I'm Sexy?" This follows the new Matt Bianco album in May. . .so at least one great tour, possibly two, if Matt Bianco decides to come this way. Just passing along info. . . They do have a couple of programs that they put on the net for listening, but they look like they aren't live or continuous. On a different note, I know the new Matt Bianco CD is not available on the US amazon site, but it is available on the Japanese site for pre-order (www.amazon.co.jp). I may go ahead and pre-order--who know's when it will be available in the US. My impression is that Matt Bianco is very popular in Japan . . . . raburabu joe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 20:40:48 EDT From: Jjpalcher@aol.com Subject: Re: "Ordinary Day" NO. I can read Japanese, and unforatunately it doesn't list anything or say anything about Matt Bianco. The page lists a bunch of CDs that somehow showed up on the search. Though, what you see at the top of the list is the special tour edition of Vanessa Carlton's "Oridinary Day." :( That's the closest information that they have, apparently. raburabu joe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 19:43:47 -0500 From: "Amy T. Grrr. Actually that's suprising, in an age where you can get the BBC stations all the time, wherever you are!
