Well, that's one of the disadvantages of "looking after" a car with diesel engine. You have to "wake up" the engine everyday, at least for warming up. After all, I went out not for nothing; picking those 5- stringed instrument is a pleasure. > Howdy! > > Phil here again with more about TSI. It seems that Basia fans come from various backgrounds. I'm sure that other singers also have fans from various backgrounds, but a pastor? BTW, Phil, what do the people in your church think when they see you "dancing" with Basia music from your earphones? Do they think, "Hey, look at Pastor Phil! What does he do? Dancing like that! Is he OK?".... :-D [deleted].... > And as a piano teacher, I always include a few songs myself at the > annual student recital. Go figure. But that is 3 months off, so that could change. > Sure could use some back up singers, however. Any volunteers? :) Drunk on Love? Well, this songs really makes my fingers "curly" when I try to follow the bass lines. Frankly, I'm not the type of a fast- fingered bassist. I'm sure that you can do better than I do. Just remember, don't dreaming and jump the light.... :-D Talking about bringing/adapting Basia music to religious music, I have to admit that I have done it during these last 3 years though I have played Bossa Nova for many religious songs longer than that. FYI, many religious songs sound really great in Bossas. I can see the smiles on people's faces when they sing it and oftenly, they follow the tempo by "swaying" their bodies back and forth, waving their legs, and some- times making a little dance, even for the "serious" songs! I myself enjoy this very much because of the dynamic chords without tiring my fingers. Sometimes, I can go more than two octaves, from the low B to the high C or more. And when I do this, the keyboard player sometimes asks me, "What chord did you use? I tried to follow you but I couldn't keep up with it." My answer, "All you can do is just play the natural/ normal chords and leave the variations for me." Funny isn't it? The normal way, bassist follow the "rules" of the keyboard player but for Bossas, I can't stand if I stay "calm" - though I still follow the main chords. But of course, I have to lift up my heart to the Lord, Jesus Christ, when I do this because He has given me fingers and talent to play bass though not being a professional one. The funny thing is that, I always play religious songs better than other "worldly" songs though I also do it in Bossas! Don't know why..... And for Amy: > No thanks. . .my bruddah Mikey says the food gets worse the farther > north you go. He just moved back to Houston from up there. . . Amy, have you ever tried Indonesian food? If you haven't, try once or twice or three times or....then tell me what you think about Indonesian food. Be careful. It's a little bit spicy. I have a friend from America. He and his family were reluctant to go home to America because they really love Indonesian food. Of course, everybody has different tastes but nothing to lose to try something new. I myself have tried American, European, Chinese, and Japanese food and frankly, I love some of them. If you like fish, maybe you can try "Bandeng Presto" with its soft "bones" so you can eat it all (though I'm not so sure if Bandeng Presto is exported to America though it's indeed exported to some countries in Europe from the central of Bandeng Presto "factory" in Indonesia - Semarang, my hometown), "Fish Barbecue" with Indonesian traditional spices, or "Bumbu Bali" if you really love hot and spicy food. If you like chicken, try "Chicken Satay" with its peanut sauce. Or if you're a vegetarian, there are a lot of choices. Well, that's all! Czesc, Desianto F. Hi, Desianto: To be honest, I've never had Indonesian food, but you pique my interest. Houston is the 4th largest city in America, and we have about as many different types of restaurants as we have people. However, I live south of Houston these days but visit Houston frequently, so I will ask around--I'm sure there is a place specializing in Indonesian food somewhere, I'm guessing in the Montrose District. Understand too that we are from New Orleans, which has, in our humble opinion, the BEST food in the world. While I'm always open to trying new things, Mikey is not. Come to think of it, my Dad isn't either--if it's not red beans and rice, gumbo, or something else you see on Emeril, it might as well be McDonald's! Louisiana is known for some spicy food, but if you want it hotter, there is always Tabasco, in 5 flavors now. (www.tabasco.com.) Here in Texas, we have hot food as well, and they love to make it hotter just for general purposes. Don't forget, we have BARBEQUE, too. I'm guessing if Basia did visit Houston that's what she'd have, or at least the band. Bobby Caldwell said they had real Texas BBQ before their concert in Austin last year. He said if you could get that in L.A., they'd put sprouts all over it! Now you've done it--I'm hungry! Of course, it is 7:30 in the morning over here. Gotta run, go to work in a while.
