Subject: Re: Sweetest Illusion Hey Phil (2)! I thought you would write a review on amazon.com or something like that and tell the whole world what you think about the album. Nevermind :-) As long as you're happy, we're also happy with you.... I'm sure that as a person who speaks English as mother tongue, you don't have any difficulties in following the lyrics, unlike me. When at the first time I listened to TSI, I misplaced some lines, e.g. "Hug a Polish girl" for "Hug an olive tree" (you know, there is a line, "a silly Polish girl in Nice") and everytime I did that, I knocked my head, gently, because I didn't want to get unconscious... :-D BTW, have you played it on your Toyota? Unlike most fans, I began to find about Basia more seriously in backwards, from Clear Horizon. This one started all, revealing my old memories and finally I began to search for her other albums. If you pay much attention between LWNY and TSI, you'll find that Basia's voice became much fuller in the later album. IMHO, this is the advantage of having complete albums, knowing the process and/of the development of a singer through the years. It's a little bit funny (?) when you said that the music at the end of "She Deserves It - Rachel's Wedding" is Greek music, while me, at the other side, think that it's Polish. I don't know which one is correct, it seems that we have to ask somebody who knows better here... :-) I'm not sure if Rachel is Greek because her name is Rachel Garvey, and Garvey is much closer to British unless if Garvey is her husband's name. Ok, I think it's enough from me. Enjoy your TSI! Desianto F. Subject: Re: Sweetest Illusion Amy, Your comment reminds me to very early posts. At that time, some of us argued about how much is Basia's height and how much does she weigh. You, as one of the people who had ever seen her personally, said that she is "tiny". Well, I think "tiny" for most westerners is normal (or maybe a little bit taller) for Asians like me. I guess, she is between 5'5" to 5'6" and weighs about 120 ponds. What do you think? Am I right or wrong? Desianto F. W. ================================================== - --- "Amy T. I can pick up music by ear, and was surprised that the chord progession on the verses of Yearning are simply major chords moving down chromatically. (very unusual pattern) The pattern of chords on the chorus (One/One-seven-Four-Seven Major 9th) were easy to hear, but didn't pick up on the verse chords until I played along on my keyboard. I also worked a bit on Drunk On Love. Had a blast! I'm 5'3", and while I didn't get to stand next to her, Basia looked shorter than ME by at least a couple of inches, plus VERY thin, too. What I mean by "thin" is that while I'm short, I'm big-boned. I was a little lighter in those days, and Basia weighed at least 30 pounds less than me as well. She is (or was) small and quite thin, whereas I can't get that small, I'm big-boned. I was one or two rows off the stage in the orchestra section of the Saenger Theater. So. . .she's tiny from our perspective, with a huge voice. Does that answer your question? I do have Time and Tide and LWNY. And no doubt, you are right that the music for TSI would indeed be quite intricate. Which brings me to a point: Shouldn't this website also have Danny White's name on it, as what we are largely "wowed" by Basia's music contains strong elements that came from Danny's musical talents? I think it should, but it's not up to me. Just a thought. And while I am at it, Desianto, I was thinking that Rachel's Wedding was Greek because of the breaking of glass at the end. I was thinking that that was only a Greek thing, but maybe not. Phil (2) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 19:53:54 -0800 (PST) From: "Desianto F. W." Subject: Re: Sweetest Illusion Yes, Amy, it answered my question and at the same time shocked me. I never thought that she is only 4' and a few inches, well, let's say, no more than 5'1" because I am 5'5.5" (not that 555 - smoothness above all else...) and about 122 pounds (used to be 126 - I lost 4 pounds recently) and I still consider that I'm still too short and too light compared to most westerners though I'm normal for most Indonesians. It seems that our diva really plays our imagination with her big voice which leads people to think that she is tall and big... :-) Desianto F. W. =================================== "Amy T.
