Jose Luis or Josi (which one do you prefer?), Every artist with skills and the most important, a true heart in what he's/she's doing, always has a place in this list (so the "cheng-cheng po" artists may get out of this list... :-)...) so don't worry to talk about wonderful artists or singers here. Frankly, I never heard of Bob Mayo. This also makes me wonder why many talented artists never known worldwide. Maybe it's because their humble heart and maybe they think that talent and honesty are more important than fame and fortune. They let their works known but their names remain unknown which shows their big hearts and love to their works. The rare things especially in this recent decade. Jose, English is my third language but I don't feel that I can't make my words be understood. In fact, if only this list used spoken words/ language to share ideas, people here had probably plastered my mouth with layers of band-aid because I "talk" too much. So, there's no need to worry about our limitation in language. Write as many as wou want and share your ideas. Czesc, Desianto F. W. P.S.: BTW, it also makes me curious, how many Joses are in this list? ======================================== - --- Jose Luis wrote: > > Hello Basia fans: > > This is the first message I post since 1999 and I apologize because > it is not about Basia. W. Hey, Desianto, or may I call you Desi? Don't be sad. Some of us are still around and still receiving the emails, but I'm like the quiet guy at a party. I'm sitting here contemplating and patiently waiting for Basia to come back to us. I think we knocked on her window pane often enough and she heard us. You, my friend, have been one of Basia's most loyal fans in that you have helped keep this group alive. She should thank you for helping stir the pangs of hunger for her music. I still listen to her albums of the past continually. While I'm waiting, I've been spending some time enjoying other artists. My favorite in that group is Sarah Brightman and was fortunate enough to see her in concert twice during her current tour just wrapping up. She's in Europe next, and then Asia. Her show is incredible. I also just saw Mary Black, the Irish singer, in concert here in my hometown. I have eclectic tastes. Thanks to my son, we've discovered Do As Infinity from Japan, and I also just purchased a wonderful Middle Eastern compilation of music that fuses jazz, middle eastern tradition, and easy listening sounds in an album titled Sahara Lounge. "Songs from Iran, Lebanon, Morocco, Lebanon, Algeria, Turkey, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and a couple of Western locales emerge transformed by clubby synth vamps and anchored by feisty, two-ton bottoms." One point I'd like to make is that too few record companies control too much of the world's music. And too few media giants own too many radio stations. The world is so full of rich music and it is up to people like us to demand better and discover new ways that every artist can be heard....and, of course, that Basia does not have to battle giant record companies to make new music for us. Music is the great language that can communicate love, peace, and a better world that everyone can understand. Hi all, Today, March 18, 2004, is exactly one year for me to be on the list. The first topic that I received at that time is: "I miss Basia", posted by Robert Burns. It seems that our thirst and curiosity soon will be quenched and fulfilled in less than two months... :-) Since that day, I've got a lot of things and learned many things. I met many kinds of people with their unique attitudes that sometimes shock me till I have to think really hard to understand and finally I can laugh at myself, laugh at my ignorance, when I get the message. But one thing that makes me sad is that some people had gone and never come up again. If it's because of my fault, please forgive me. I wish they will come up again and share the ideas of being Basia's people. BTW, do you know what made me interested to jump in the list? Besides of my interest in Basia's music, one of you made me to do that though she didn't do it directly. One day, I sneaked into the archive of smoe.org to read some info about Basia. One message, which talked about a review of Basia album from amazon.com, caught my attention and before I thought about whose review that they talked about, I got the answer. It's my review. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought, "Why they chose my review? There are some better and more serious reviews than mine but why they chose that silly review?" I still remember that the topic was posted by Leslie and responsed by Krystyna and Steve O'Hearn. I thought for some times, bewildered, and then I said to myself, "Terlanjur basah, ya sudah, mandi sekalian." It's an Indone- sian proverb. The translation: "I've been soaked wet, so there is nothing I can do but bathing." It means, I've gone too far and there's no turning back and all that I can do is "play the game". So I joined the list and... you know the next story. And now, what is my hope for the next step? I hope I will be able to hang on for one more year and do my best to contribute to the list. OK, while we're waiting for the oncoming MB album, I have something for you. I've seen the photos of a few people here (Ben Combee, Larry Lipman, and Odillon Jose Luciano). Now, I'll give you the address of Gunter Family Newsletters. Yes, it's Thelma's newsletters. Maybe some of you had visited her site but I'll give the address anyway. You can visit her at http://www.geocities.com/n524789/ In there, you can read a lot about her and her family and go to some available links. You can also see some photos of her family. That's all.
