["Desianto F. W." Subject: Had she ever been on a comedy show? Hello all, Had anyone of you ever watched Basia on a comedy show? I know, it's a rather strange question for all of you, the loyal Basia lovers. OK, I'll play my next 'silat style' to warm up the list (silat is a traditional Indonesian self-defense art, and it has many styles - actually they're called as 'jurus' - such as "An eagle catching a rat", "Biting snake", or even "Digging the earth"). My next jurus will be called "The memory of a forgetful man"... :-) About a year and a half ago, there was a comedy show on a TV station in Indonesia. It's Freddy Starr show, I'm sure that some of you are familiar with it. One day, I watched this show. At that time, Freddy invited a magician on the stage. He asked the magician to show some simple tricks to the audiences. The magician said that he will show a simple card trick and he asked some playing cards. Freddy then asked his assistant (the assistant is not on stage so he had to shout) to bring the cards. Then came the assistant, a long-haired woman with a long-sleeved black blouse and a skirt with a tray and cards on it. She looked like Basia IMHO, but I didn't think further because I know that there are many women who look like Basia until I saw Freddy's reaction when she was near them. He looked surprised and before he ask more questions, the woman went away. Freddy was still surprised but he was speechless because the magician had already begun his trick. I think he would say "Who was that woman?" but finally he was able to control himself. While the magician was performing his trick, Freddy interrupted, "Please, don't use cards. I know it's an easy trick so please do it without cards. Can you do a card trick without cards?" (or something like that). The magician thought for a while and then he gave the cards to Freddy. He said to Freddy, "Please pick a card in your mind and don't tell me what card is!" Then he said, "Let's imagine that you put that card in an unusual place, let's say, a sausage." Freddy looked amazed but he said, "OK, in a sausage. Let's make it more challenging!" The magician talked more about the sausage, e.g. it's a big sausage, delicious, and so on. Finally he said, "Let's see your card!" So Freddy ask his assistant again to bring him a sausage. And the woman came out again which surprised Freddy one more time. He tried to stop her to ask her some questions but he was so surprised and no clear words came out from his lips. The woman just smiled at them and then went away. But his attention soon was drawn to the trick and he was asked to break the sausage and take the card out of it. The magician asked him, "Is this your card?" Freddy answered, "Yes, you're great! Give him applause ladies and gentelmen!" He tried to look calm but his gestures showed that he was still curious about the woman. He showed a kind of look like "Where did I meet her, she looks familiar." I know that maybe it's nothing and too good to be true. But Freddy's expression is somewhat strange because as a professional, I'm sure that he knows almost everything about his work including who his crew is. That event seemed "out of the scenario". Maybe Freddy knew Basia because he is in England and the studio is in London. Therefore, when he saw a woman who looks like Basia in his show, he was so surprised. To be honest, I don't know the truth: was she Basia or was she a woman who looks like Basia? Everything is possible. It's possible that Basia went to the studio to surprise Freddy and the audiences just for fun (considering her spontaneous and "playful" attitude). It's also possible that she is not Basia, just an ordinary woman. Sadly I can't find anything about it after searching in the web. OK, I'll leave you with that question. If you're curious enough about how she looked like, you can watch Basia's clip on Jay Leno's show singing Baby You're Mine. Have a nice day! Desianto F.
