I can say that I do know him because I did sound for the first band he was in, My friend Rick's band the Specs circa 1979. Matt was an extremely talented 14 year old bass player (My old friend Dave discovered him) but he could not sing and play at the same time back then. His dad bought him an Alembic bass and a polytone amp that kicked ass. The specs were quite popular around here. We used Kliptch (sp?) LaScalas for mains and Audionics pz3's for power, a 12 channel board and a tape echo. Matt has released several albums and has worked with some famous people (not Basia). I heard that Ron Woods of the rolling stones named the band "the Thornes" Tom (Always wanted to be a rock star) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jan 2004 16:05:26 EST From: PParm16424@aol.com Subject: Re: Brush with greatness And shoot! I went up to St. Paul to see them last Sept while they were on tour, and wasn't disapointed a bit. A great re-creation of the Aja and Gaucho years with the horn section. Only thing missing was LARRY CARLTON on the Gibson(please don't start that thread again!) HNY DM&FS At 08:21 PM 1/3/2004, JC wrote: >Ah yes - Steely Dan - one of my favorite bands of all time! Never heard "Ruby,Ruby" done like that and it rocks!! Larry C. only played on 7 of the 8 tracks(didn't I swear not to start that thread a minute ago?) Also don't forget Fagen's "New York Rock n Soul Review live effort(found a copy on ebay) with the likes of Phoebe Snow, Michael McDonald, Charles Brown, the Bragatti brothers(sp? but part of the Rascals years ago). Great energy and Fagen sorta does the emcee gig as well as doing the music thing. Well worth the $2 and media mail charge. Walter Brecker's solo efforts are far less stellar IMHO. I knew a guy way before the era of car stereo amps that put a pair of plywood La Scalas in the back of his van and rigged up a power inverter and an AC amp and a cassette tape deck. He played a sound effects tape of a train locomotive going down a canyon with the windows open and the amp at full blast( if you knew how efficient La Scalas are you'd understand how loud that sound was) in a downtown traffic jam. There was no train track for miles, but people were fleeing their vehicles for fear of getting run over by the train they heard!! Maybe would've been a good gig for Candid Camera or something.
