I get at least two or three of those e-mails every single day. They usually claim to be from some poor tortured family in Nigeria, South Africa, or other developing country. I think I even received one that claimed a similar story in Indonesia. I'd be glad to help out--but send me the money first. I'll be glad to turn over 90 or 95% of the cash to you and keep the helper's fee. One time I wondered what would happen if I set up a bank account with no money in it and then told them to go ahead and send the money. It's all phony, of course. Believe or not, people keep falling for this. They give the criminals their bank account information and then find out their cash is cleaned out instead of finding a deposit. By the way, Maureen McGovern has a nice Christmas album. Many Basia fans might also like Maureen's music. If you like jazz and a female voice singing the standards, Maureen has what has been labeled the Stradivirius voice. She's had an impressive body of work since her first hit, "The Morning After." She and I are acquainted also, so I don't mind plugging her. Season's Greetings to All! Fred - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2003 19:59:33 -0800 (PST) From: "Desianto F. W." Subject: Off topic: He can't buy me Hello all, It seems that crime never stops even during Christmas Season. This morning, I received an e-mail with a "VERY URGENT" topic from a man that I never know. He said that he is an employee of a bank in South Africa and has US$ 136,000,000.00 that remains untouched because the owner of the account is dead. He asked me to reveal my bank account and he will transfer the money to my account. However, he can't buy me. I'm quite familiar with this trick since the last time I received spams. He aims my money. So, I blocked the address, never reply the message, and hopefully, he'll know that I can't be bought (after all, I never put a "For Sale" sign on my forehead..:-)..) Actually, if I gave him my bank account, he would die instantly in disappointment because my money is no more than US$ 50.00 and I would be the last man laughing at him.......LOL Have a nice day! I guess I'll have to check my bank account to see if the money is there yet, and if it's not I'd better transfer my millions to a different account, si? Irritating, scamming 'net artists. Why don't they run for political office where they can take the tax dollars from some poor people legally, or better yet, go watch back episodes of "South Park" and see how you're really supposed to treat folks at Christmas? (Especially refer to Cartman and his quotable quotes about food drives.) LOL! /jan - ----------------------------------- Quoting Bill: "Hey! He sent the same email to me! I am now listening to beautiful holiday music and recovering my former festive spirits (and I will see that it doesn't happen again!)
