OK, now we talk about CD. In tropical area e.g. in my country Indonesia where humidity can reach 99%, mold is really a problem in storing the CD. Somehow, it does destroy the track which causes malfunction. Some kind of tropical mold can penetrate the protective layers of the CD and 'destroy' it physically though it's a rare case. It happened to a CD collector here who has too many CD's (more than 900) but no time to play them regularly. As a result, some of his CD's, especially the CD's which are not used regularly, have mold on their surfaces. It was too late for him when he found it so the CD had already been 'destroyed'. From this case, I made a conclusion that beside cleaning our CD's regularly and store them in the dry, clean and not so humid place, we need to play them regularly because, I think, the heat from the laser maybe can 'burn' the mold when it's still in a very small amount (not visible). In additon, by not touching the surface or cleaning it immediately after you touch it accidentally will also prevent the mold to grow because the finger print marks (or other body part marks) contain a kind of protein which is an ideal place for mold to grow. OK, that's for CD. But for cd, I don't have any problem with humidity, finger/body part marks, dust, even water. If they're dirty, I simply soak them in the water with detergent, rinse them, and dry them. Even, I've sat on them many times, bend them everyday but they still work very well. Confused? Don't be!:-) If you're an Indonesian, you'll get what I mean. OK, I'll explain it to you. "CD", with capital letters, in Indonesia and - of course - all countries means Compact Disc. "cd", with small letters, maybe, for some of you, doesn't make any different meaning with CD. However, for Indonesians, it does mean something completely different. "cd" means "celana dalam" (read the "c" as "ch") or in English means..... (sorry!) "underpants"...:-D Honestly, this is the Indonesian way to avoid being embarassed when we have to mention underpants in front of people...:-) Get the picture? Therefore, sometimes I can't resist laughing when someone writes 'cd' for "CD". Well, you can imagine if a 'cd' goes into the CD tray and play it, surely will cause MUCH trouble!..:-) Well, that's all. I hope, I can contribute something. Desianto F.
