A writer of an audio magazine wrote that her voice can put many tweeters into a shame because of the inaccurate high frequency production. But nothing and nobody can change my mind about Basia. FYI, I even make my SUV's license number sounds like Basia. The number is H 8854 YW. Doesn't make sense, does it? OK, I'll explain it to you. 8854 = The first 8 = B. The second 8, put a small amount of camouflage paint at the bottom so it will look like an A. 5 = S. 4 = A. I put a small "i" with a piece of sticker with a different color between 5 and 4. So, it sounds = BASiA. About the H, well, make it "Hi". And YW means You're Wonderful. As a result, my license number sounds: "Hi BASiA, You're Wonderful". I'm sure that it's illegal to do something like that in the USA and other countries. But in Indonesia, as long as the plate is legal, having a Police mark, the color is unchanged, and the numbers are readable, there will be no problem. I got that number at the end of October 2003 because the old number was expired and the new rule makes me to change the number. BTW, H is the code for Semarang - - the city where I live - and it's jurisdictions. Actally, I was after H 8451 A, H 8451 AA, H 8454 TR, or H 8454 with other letters at the back. But it would cost me a lot to get one of that numbers because I had to buy it - literally. The only thing that I could do is register my SUV and then prayed a lot! The result is H 8854 YW, not so far away from my hope, even better because I got the letters Y and W. Is there anyone of you having the "Basia" license number? Well, share it with us! Desianto F. The songs get me sometimes because they are just *too* sappy, but then they were very popular so they must have hit the right feeling at the time. It's like what my mother says: "Of course the '70s were like that-- we were recovering from the '60s!" I prefer to keep her singing separate from her life because her life is hard to think about. - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! The Carpenters' material was simply phenomenal! Karen had this kind of 'flavor' of beautiful, deep melancholy in her voice which no one else has ever managed to capture or equal. [BTW, many people still don't know that Karen also played the drums on much of the Carpenters' work.] But I've always felt that Richard was woefully overlooked, and was really the driving force behind the Carpenters. In addition to keyboards, he did fantastic arrangements and compositions. He was really responsible for those incredilby *lush* vocal harmonies, in which he often sang with Karen [Someone here said Karen did all of her harmonies herself. That's not entirely true.] But I feel sorry for Richard and his loss. He has struggled to continue, but without the beauty of Karen's voice, it's not the same. And he has not tried to find a new collaborative partner again, either. I guess when it's your sister, that's really hard to replace, too. However, I've always thought it would be interesting to have Richard make a new album of Carpenters classics with a collection of all-stars, a different one on each song--Like, for instance, Corinne Drewery of Swing Out Sister, Anita Baker, or a certain Polish diva we all know. ;) Joe in Baltimore On Thu, 13 Nov 2003, Paul S.
