Subject: My story part 3 One day, on October 29, 2001, 4pm, I and two friends were heading to a music store to buy blank cassettes after the class was over. We need them to do our homework in Discourse Analysis, where we were asked to make recorded monologues. So, there we were, on the way to the store, like a Yamaha gang because we rode together in a group, all on Yamaha bikes, cruis- ing along the streets. Arriving in the store, I got the cassette and was ready to pay it and go home, when, suddenly, I was moved by an unexplained 'power' to the rack of Jazz records. I looked at the rack, the CD's and tapes there, confused and didn't know what I was searching for, until suddenly my eyes captured the familiar face and the familiar name, the cover of Clear Horizon! I took it without thinking twice, read the song list at the back, and BYM is there! I paid the prices quickly, got out of the store ASAP, and rushed to my bike. My friends were surprised and then made fun of me: "Hey, calm down! You act as if as you were chased by policemen!" They laughed at me but I didn't care! I just smiled and said, "You'll never know..." I cranked up the engine, pull the clutch, kicked the gear shifter, and went full throttle. My friends followed me instantly and soon we're parted at a roundabout but I still could see their laughing faces. Till now, I still can't believe this experience At home, I changed my clothes, cleaned myself, and ate my lunch in a hurry though it was too late for me to have a lunch. Then, I played the record, for my ears only because I used headphones. I was satisfied (and am still) and my waiting period is worthwhile! But I didn't forget my homework, I did it after I finished listening to Basia. Even my monologue is the craziest ever in the faculty. I made it as if as I were a radio anchorman who is on air reading a story with two instrumental songs as the background music. I think no one in the faculty would be crazy enough to do a monologue like mine, at least for a longer period, unless if there is a crazier student than me....:-). That's my experience with Basia, since the first time I heard her voice till the first Basia album I have. I never say that I'm attached to her, I just admire her special quality. Actually, I have to thank my mother for introducing me accidentally to Bossa-Nova when I was only 3 or 4, when other kids were listening to kids songs. Maybe this is why I'm able to 'digest' Basia's songs easily. There are still many experiences but I'll write them next time, when the list is 'quiet' enough. Desianto F. W. P.S. BTW, after writing the second part, I found an ad of a magazine in the newspaper. One of the articles in that magazine is "Sexy Fringes" (Gentlemen,.. start whistling! - and 'Gentlewomen', start looking at your hair styles!...:-)...). I think not all women will look good with fringes on their forehead; Basia is one of them who look just perfect. I think, she can keep her hair style for a longer period, even forever and does not have to say anything about this latest trend. DFW. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Hello friends, I've got very little old info about Basia, or at least the things about her. It's not new and some of you have probably discussed about it, so my apology. First one, (it's a shock) the name Basia Trzetrzelewska is placed in the Encyclopaedia Britannica online in the category of vocalists. You can find it at: http://www.britannica.com/search?ref=B04319&query=vocalist&submit=Find Unfortunately, the link seems not working properly. Though she hasn't made any new release, at least her name will remain in history....:-) Second (helping, not good enough), Basia's The Prayer of a Happy Houswife is used as the background song of a play entitled Gone Too Soon. The year is 1999 so it's possible that some of you who love to see plays/performances have already knew it. You can find it at: http://www.gonetoosoon.com/script2.html My question, did Basia get anything from it? Third (time lucky, and you've arrived), I found an old archive from Al Stewart mail digest (sadly, I forgot the address...:-(..). The year is 1995, or March 30, 1995 for exactly. Some of the listers talked about Basia. Here is the extract: ================================= From: Adrian Date: 30 Mar 95 17:30:01 GMT Subject: Is this the same Peter White? It's confession time -- I bought Basia's 1994 album "The sweetest illusion" a few weeks ago, on a whim really (the cover art attracted me to it on the front of the 'B' rack and I got the shop to play me a bit). I really love this blend of gorgeous voice, witty lyrics and soft jazz-rock music. Now here's the question: on all tracks a Peter White is credited with guitar (sometimes acoustic guitar) and on one track with guitar & accordion; can anyone tell me please, is this the same Peter White? I am tempted to think not, because Basia Trzetrzelewska's co-writer/arranger/producer and keyboard player is Danny White, so one suspects a family connection, but I don't know enough about the 'real' Peter White's activities outside of "Rhymes in rooms" to be sure. The album was recorded in London and is on the Epic label. Yes, that is the same Peter White playing with Basia. (And he provides accordian on SWEETEST ILLUSION too.) He was touring with her for a good part of last year. > I am tempted to think not, because Basia > Trzetrzelewska's co-writer/arranger/producer and > keyboard player is Danny White, so one suspects a > family connection, but I don't know enough about > the 'real' Peter White's activities outside of > "Rhymes in rooms" to be sure. Propaganda were a German band on the ZTT label during the mid-80s. They only came out with one album, as far as I know. But I'm also sure that it's possible if some of them became the members of our list later. One of the mail server (I'm not sure which one is) address is at smoe.org group, therefore, IMHO, the possibility of being the members of our list is quite big. If YES, please, say your name....:-) OK, that's enough from me, now. I hope the info is useful and the links work well. If you have any doubt then try once more.....:-) Desianto F. Desianto, I thought it quite a coincidence that Kim Dyer would have lived only a few miles from me. That was in '95, however, so I checked the phone book, but could not find a reference to any Dyers on Wilcox Rd. specifically. There is one listed in Holt, but no address. Perhaps, I will try the two email addresses and see if perhaps another Basia fan is living in close proximity to me. Just while I am writing, I will add this. I would say that in the absence of anything new on the Basia front, perhaps the most important thing we can do at this point is promote her music with friends and family as the opportunity arises. I purchased a Time and Tide CD for my best friend, whom I knew would love and appreciate really excellent music, and just last Friday, I was playing a Basia tape in my car (purely by accident, you understand! :) ) and my muscial friend said that though he knew "of" Basia, he really didn't know she was THAT good! SO, let's start a groundswell of Basia music sales that will burst forth the flood gates of new music coming from the lady! OK, well maybe that's a bit grandiose, but it felt good at the time! :) Cheers! Phil (2) ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V8 #149 ***************************
