W." ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 21:18:55 -0700 (PDT) From: "Desianto F. W." Subject: My story part 2 From 1994 to 1995, I bought some records, Ace of Base, Michael W. Smith, Jon Secada, The Cranberries, Erasure, Bryan Adams, Gipsy Kings, Air Supply - News From Nowhere, The Soundtrack of Don Juan de Marco, Take That, and Nicki French. But no one of them could suit my deepest heart. As a result, I began to sell them one by one, even I gave The Cranberries for free after I listened to it just once! (sorry Dolores...). And Bryan Adams also faced the same fate. I gladly let 'him' go, twice, because I had two, one of them was the replacement of the other because Danny, my friend (that Danny, my keyboard player, who isn't busy chasing girls anymore now) made the first tape tangled and bought me a new one in 2000 and keep the old one. Only some are left now and I plan to sell them next time but I'll keep Michael and maybe the Soundtrack. In 1996, there was a new program on TV, called Nostalgia, played songs from 1950's to early 1990's. I watched it not so often but I enjoyed it. It was always opened by the same opening clip. One day, I took a better look at the opening clip of the program just for fun. The clip showed some singers, bands, and musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Lionel Richie, Sade, Kenny Logins, Duran Duran, The Beatles, Rolling Stone, Phil Colins, AND one face that I couldn't recognize but captured my heart instantly! "Who is that lady with fringe/bangs on her forehead, sharp eyes, pointed nose, and beautiful lips?" I asked myself. I read the song list and waited, but she didn't come up. Since that day, my curiosity made me waiting for weeks, watching the opening clip many times, and hoping that someday I'll find out some- thing about her. It made me almost desperated till one day I watched the program once more, while, at the same time, I was soldering some cables of a speaker cabinet. The anchorman said, "Do you know Basia?" I said to myself, "Who? Basia? That's a strange name." The anchorman said again, "Do you know Baby You're Mine?" I said to myself again, "I prefer Baby I'm Yours," and I was laughing a little. The anchorman said some words again before the video clip was played and I concentrated on the cables again. When I was busy with the cables, the 'Basia-Nova' rhythm was heard and it attracted me to glance at the TV which later shocked me instantly! THAT'S HER! That's the lady with fringe/bangs on her forehead! I was so excited till I forgot the soldering-iron and soldered my finger accidentaly! (ouch..!) I tried to remember her name, the title of the song, the album, and her face just in case I'll find her album in the music store. I even started to watch the program regularly hoping that the video clip would be played again, but it seemed that I had to wait any longer because it wasn't played again....:-( Soon, I forgot the idea of buying her album but never forget her (I'm a fool, aren't I?). The year was 1998, I enrolled myself in a university after two years taking Graphic Design lessons and tried to work on everything. I forgot about her, but not completely. I bought a record, Level 42, and soon I was hooked to this group. I tried Mark King's style which resulted in blistering right thumb. The busy activities in the campus, the 'slapping style' of Mark King, and my band 'drowned' me further from Basia. But it seemed that I won't be able to forget her at all.
