Yes, come out and play!. The name Luisa that I know is only Luisa Fernandez who sang "Dance Baby Dance Around", somewhere in late 1970's, the Disco Era. I hope I will be able to add some more Luisa in my mind...:-) BTW, what is the 'J' behind your name? OK, Breaking News! This Friday (9/12 Indonesian time), I went to campus to return a book to my lecturer and to get some info. I met my friend at the stairs and we had a little chat. When I was ready to go home, he suddenly asked me about Basia records that I looked for some months ago, before I became the member of this list. I was surprised. I asked him back, "What do you know about her?" "Not much," he said. He also said that he had difficulties in doing "Drunk on Love" with his band (he certainly don't know about Basia much). I asked him what album does he have and he said Clear Horizon but he had lost it (sorry for him, lucky for the person who found it). I told him that I have all of her albums (thanks Thelma and my brother), even I have some copies of some albums but not the singles. We talked a lot and he is very enthusiastic, and at the same time, his girlfriend joined us. When I told them that Basia's songs have many versions they said, "Oh dear, we miss a lot. We totally don't know about her." Then he asked me how to pronounce Basia's full name correctly. Well, it's a piece of cake for me...:-) Finally, they wanted me to make copies of the albums but I said "NO". I've promised that I'll never make any copies of them, honestly, honest Injun!..:-) They persuade me but I still say no! Instead, I asked them to go to the music store to buy LWNY there because I know well enough that it is the only Basia sold here in Indonesia right now. Finally, they agree with my suggestion. I know, it's nothing compared to all the members here have done. But at least, it could be Dzien Sie Budzi (the day of awakening?) of Basia music here in Indonesia. When I drove home in that 4-WD, I sang Dzien Sie Budzi wtih a smile on my face! Desianto F. My name is Maria Luisa---not Maria and Luisa---. The J is for Jimenez. I was thinking alot about the singers I like because I joined Launch again on yahoo and I'm rating songs and trying to add musicians. Does anyone on this list remember Julee Cruise? She did a lot of music for David Lynch stuff (Twin Peaks the tv series and the movie). I saw her in concert back in 1991 I think and the other day I was watching re-runs of Saturday Night Live and she was the musical guest. I really love her voice. I added her on launch and they've played a couple of her songs. I am trying real hard not to get stuck back somewhere and continue listening to newer artists. It's all this lists fault that I expand my musical listening---Diana Krall is one of them. A while back I got a promo website thing to click on a song by Julia Fordham and India Arie called "Concrete Love". . .I loved that and was so glad to know she had put a new album out. I've been listening to other songs from her album on launch too. I think I need to hit a record store soon---oops, see I live in the past. A music store. I have all these records at home and not turntable to play them on :( Ok, see I ramble. . .you guys are lucky I mostly lurk. ;) Maria Luisa __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I still listen to the first album several times a year. She also had a concert video which came out around the time of Twin Peaks. It's very strange but great - I believe David Lynch produced/directed that video himself. Hard to find but you might find a copy somewhere. My understanding is that after the Twin Peaks era she toured for a while with the B-52's, temporarily replacing (forgive me) the blonde girl, who didn't wish to tour at that time. If you are looking for great singers - I recommend Stacey Kent, my favorite new singer of pop standards. She has that rare capability of making a song seem all her own once she sings it. For me they've stood the test of time better than any other modern songs I know of. And yes, he's wearing white now, at long last.
