But if you asked for Basia Trzetrzelewska, yes, you go to the right place. Anyway, if you're new, you've got my warm welcome. Enough for the small talk, let's start it. Basia (Barbara) Trzetrzelewska is one of well known Jazz singers. She was born in Jaworzno, Poland, on September 30, 1959. She is one of four children but I don't know if she is the eldest or the youngest. But I'm sure that she could be the third or fourth child because she had ever mentioned about her elder brother/sister. She loves to sing since her early ages. She started her professional career at the age of 15 after winning a singing contest in Poland. Then, together with her friends, she formed an all girls band named Alibabki. Later, she joined a band named Perfect and toured around Poland till one time they went to Chicago and performed there. It's possible that Basia gained and developed her musical patterns when she was in Chicago. In early 1980's, she moved to England because she wanted to be closer to her hometown. She answered an ad. about a backing vocals wanted which then led her to a band named Bronze where she met Danny White, her partner in music till now. She and Danny and some fellows then made a band named Matt Bianco. Their album entitled "Whose Side Are You on" is a success where Basia contributed her voice in some songs. Basia also learned to write songs when she was with Matt Bianco, which later become her valuable asset. Later, she and Danny were quit from the band and Basia started her solo career (somebody here can give more info about her early years because I can't remember the whole things well). Her debut album, "Time and Tide" in 1987, was a great success. Her songs, "Promises" and "New Day for You" got platinum just two weeks after the album was released. Her second album, "London Warsaw New York" in 1990, was also a great success. Almost all songs in the album became very popular, such as "Cruising for Bruising", "Brave New Hope", Baby You're Mine", and her remake of Aretha Franklin's "Until You Come Back to Me". Then, her third album - "Brave New Hope", which can be considered as the 'sequel' of LWNY, was released in 1991. This album has 5 remix songs and 4 'new' songs. In 1994, her fourth album, "The Sweetest Illusion" was released. Some most notable songs are "Drunk on Love", Third Time Lucky", "Yearning", and "An Olive Tree". In this album, Basia gave a new 'atmosphere' because she used a full band in all songs. In 1995, she had her Broadway performance at the Neil Simon Theatre. Her live performance was recorded and released as her fifth album named "Basia on Broadway". Her live album is the best live album ever, IMHO, till now, because it is really magnificent and also brilliant. Later, she contributed in Peter White's (Danny's elder brother) album in 1996, named "Caravan of Dreams". She sang "Just Another Day". She also made some singles, among all are "Basia X-Mas" and "Waters of March". Then, in 1998, she released her compilation album named "Clear Horizon - The Best of Basia". It has 4 new songs, 2 of them are brand new, and 13 best songs from her previous albums. In 1999, she contributed in Spyro Gyra's album named "Got the Magic". She sang "Springtime Laughter". Then, she also contributed in Taro Hakase's "So Nice (Summer Samba)", singing "So Nice". Till now, she hasn' released a new album. A reliable source says that she will release two albums. However, she is still looking for a new label (or she has found one, I don't know, because we here haven't got any news yet) because it seems that Sony has neglected her. IMHO, maybe Sony thinks that her music is out of date and won't make hits anymore though according to me and all Basia's fans, her music has a premium quality, not just music, or even worse, junk, which is sold out but has no taste. We love her just the way she is and will disagree if she is forced to leave her "Basia-Nova", "Jazzia", and "Bluesia" patterns in the name of big selling. Everybody who has listened to her music and songs will understand what I mean. Moreover, she is a singer with a warm personality, never do anything silly (though, of course, she could be 'mad' if her feeling is hurt too much and also she is quite funny...), kindhearted, so modest and honest, a really simple extraordinary ordinary woman, and also the smart one. That's all from me. I believe someone here has more info that can be shared. from Indonesia, Desianto F. W. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. That was certainly not my intention. If I did, I apologize for that. First, I was kind of surprised that anyone could have missed what I thought was the #1 news story in the world for two days running (about the capture of Riduan Isamuddin). Then, it was just a point that in a country as populous as Indonesia (230M+) that F.W. would not likely have any more insight into a major news story than I would in a country of 280M+. I only used the Ted Williams analogy as it was a big story that day. It, also, is a very disturbing story. Ted Williams was one of the most famous baseball players in history. He is considered by many to be the greatest hitter that ever played the game. He died a couple of years ago and two of his children decided to have him frozen, in the hopes that he may be revived in the future (!!!!!). As bizarre as that sounds, it got worse. The recent story that I referred to says that his head has been removed from his body, and that it had numerous holes drilled in it. Also, it was stated that the head was full of cracks from being dropped. So, this is a very sad story about a man that is a true American hero. In addition to being a famous baseball player, Williams was a fighter ace in Korea. He interrupted playing baseball in the prime of his career to serve his country. John Wayne was quoted as saying (about Ted Williams) "I am not a hero - Ted Williams is a true hero". But, again, I know nothing more about this story than what I see and hear in the news. An interesting side line to my research on population figures is that the #3, 4, and 5 most populous countries in the world are the U.S., Indonesia, and Brazil - three hotbeds of Basia fans ;-) If we could only get the Chinese and the Indians (#1 and #2) interested in Basia, maybe the record companies would make something happen. As I have stated before, I believe that Basia is content and having a very nice life. I think she will be back when she feels like she, herself, needs to be, and not on anyone else's timetable. Jose, assuming you are not rude - and you certainly were not -, don't let me or anyone else dictate what you can or cannot say. As an American (me), the right to say what you want (i.e. free speech) is a cherished thing to be able to do. But, it is also a responsibility that should not be abused. Correction Bill. I don't think that there are a lot of Basia's fans in Indonesia though I hope for the contrary. Many, yes, but not so 'fanatic', except me, of course. It's also possible that the selling record of Basia's album in Indonesia is big. But if you know Indonesians well, you will realize that MOST Indonesians accept almost everything without thinking further. They tend to change their minds easily. They just want to follow the latest trends or style. So, I consider that they're lucky enough to have Basia's album but to be loyal or faithful fans, I don't think so.... I have experiences when introducing Basia or asking about her here to many people. The answer is that, "WHAT is that?" not "Who is she?" My goodness, It make me really sad... :-( Or if they know about her, usually, the only thing they really know is "Baby You're Mine". Her bio or discography? Well, only Heaven knows.... Desianto F. John Galt is in "Atlas Shrugged" not "The Fountainhead" - How do I know? I made it through Atlas Shrugged, but I could never get through The Fountainhead, even though I would agree with Rand about a great deal. To me, her novels just plod along at a pace slower than the pace of Basia album releases. un abrazo, juan *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 8/18/03 at 9:40 PM pineking@gwi.net wrote: >Walter you gave me my first chuckle in years online.
