The Police has not said anything about the group but there is a strong indication that those bombings were done by Jamaah Islamiyah (JI). About the relation between JI and AQ, it's still under investigation. There is also information that JI has a relation with MILF in Southern Philippines but the truth is still under investigation. But there is one main similarity that all members were trained in Afghanistan. It's also believed that this group (JI) is responsible for the bombings in Indonesia since 1999, among them were the Philippines Embassy bombing, Jakarta Stock Exchange bombing, Medan bombing, Christmas night bombing, Bali bombing, and J. W. Marriott bombing. Their main MO's are car bomb and suicide bomb though they also use other MO's as well. However, not all bombings in Indonesia were done by JI because there are still many groups like GAM (Aceh Free Movement) and some 'freelance' bombers, usually hired in dirty business, who also did many bombings but not as severe as JI and usually (not all) never claimed victims. To Jose, the Free West Papua movement (or OPM) never use bombing as their main MO. The usually make sporadic riots in some area in West Papua (Irian). There are still two separatist groups in Indonesia, GAM (Aceh Free Movement) which is the biggest, and RMS (South Mollucca Republic), a relatively small group. Among those three, only GAM that uses bomb as one of its terror actions. Yes, Riduan Isamuddin alias Hambali was arrested some days ago in Thailand but the designer of the bombs is still out there (Dr. Azhari, a Malaysian). It's also believed that the bomb used in the Marriott tragedy is the part of the bombs found in Semarang about a month ago (near my home teritory! Imagine if they accidentally exploded because it was twice stronger than the Bali bomb on the whole!) which was managed to be sent by the terrorists to Jakarta. However, the Police still tries hard to find the supporting facts. Right now, two of the suspects in Bali bombing (Amrozy and Imam Samudra) were sentenced to death. The other suspects are still waiting...... Till now the Police has arrested 87 bombing suspects and more to come.... According to the documents found in the investegations, their aim is to make a (radical) Islamic country in SE Asia. However, by God's grace, their aim has not been achieved, let's hope it won't be achieved at all. It doesn't mean that all Moslems are radical and never make peace. There are still a great number of Moslems who are tolerant of other non-Moslems, usually called moderate Moslem. They work together with non-Moslems, respect, help, care of, make friends each other, accept changes gladly, & do all things that civilized people do (so, let's never hate them). However, just because of a small number of radical Moslems, the name of Moslem is usually associated with barbarian, un- civilized, or even terrorist. I hope this stereotype will 'vanish' in the future because there are still a lot of good Moslems out there. I myself have many kindhearted Moslem friends besides Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, and other beliefs. It's so interesting to make friends with people from various backgrounds because by doing this, I learn to respect diversity. Even, I have friends (three girls, they are sisters) who have parents with different religions; the mother is a Christian and the father is a Moslem but their family is very harmonious, even it is more peaceful than the most family with the same religion for all the members. If only the world could be like that... not only in religions but also in human race. But thank God, the conflict of human race is 'heading' to vanish now, I hope I will never heard again someone calls me a 'white' Javanese just because I'm not 100% Javanese... :-) Czesc, Desianto F. I really enjoyed the conversations and your comments are very welcome by me. I had to ask my husband to remind me who Ted Williams was. He was a famous baseball player who died last year and his family had his body frozen in the hopes that someday medical science could bring him back to life. Recently some DNA samples were found to be missing so there is suspicion to cloning now. Again, don't worry about offending someone sometimes for that is what makes the world go round. (or was that "love???" I get those two mixed up) Thelma - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, August 16, 2003 6:25 PM Subject: Re: basia-digest V8 #114 > > ya allright, my apologies, who is ted williams, never heard of him, don{t need to respond to this if you want, seems every tiem i type someting here i ofend somebody,..... ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V8 #115 ***************************
