A leisurely Sunday to cruise down to the local pet emporium to pick up some supplies for the kitty, dog, lovebird, Rosie Borque paraqueet (it's pink!), and the goldfish. Popped the "London, Warsaw, and New York" CD into the car player (with that absolutely beautiful portrait of Basia on the cover). The CD had just finished playing "Cruising for Bruising" when I arrived at the pet store. Walked inside and guess what selection was playing over the ceiling speakers? If you guessed "Cruising for Bruising," you're correct. Next, I went to the grocery store, which also plays music over its speaker system. Now what are the odds of this? "Sweetest Illusion" was playing as I walked into the store! Some people believe that there are no coincidences. It is just too weird. I'm thinking, maybe the stars are lining up for her again. Wishful thinking won't hurt anyone. My deepest intuition tells me that we have not heard the last of Basia. Speculation out of admiration, I guess. Fred, Not to be compared with your experience (way cool though it was), my wife and I drove to Grand Rapids to do some 2nd hand shopping. We stopped at a Wendy's to eat first, and over the speakers, I heard the beginning of a song I hadn't heard in a long time. It was Basia, and the song was "Baby You're Mine". I thought that was real cool, but at one of the stores, I found a used but still good "London, Warsaw, New York" cassette. Only then, I realized that THAT song was on THAT tape. I later decided to get the book of sheets for "Time and Tide" and ordered it from the local music store. Lo and behold, when it came in, it also had "London, Warsaw, New York" in it as well. It was like it was destined to be! I have had a blast playing and singing (well, some of them) her songs. (on my keyboard) Phil/Michigan (who will no longer designate himself as not the one on "crack", as that is not only untrue of the other Phil, but puts him an unfavorable light.) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2003 04:04:26 -0700 (PDT) From: "Desianto F. (Just kidding....:-)....your user name is Time Voyager...) Thanks to everybody responding my question. If it was too much, I apologize; just saying my opinion. You know what? I wasn't feel OK because I got ill that day, maybe just I was too tired (thinking, writing, typing, traveling, driving many kinds of vehicles; from a little motorbike to a huge 4-WD, lucky I didn't drive a bus since the last time I drove 52-seater Merc when I was only 17..., and stayed up late). So, here I am, noot good, but OK. About Basia, well, thanks Leslie for confirming the last news about her. I knew that there was a personal loss in her family and I hope that it won't influence her too much. And two albums? It means about 20 songs and surely they need more time.... Lucky you're there because still many places play her songs. But here, I never heard them for years though a few Indonesian singers do sing her songs (BYM and HAM). What I do when those singers sing is switch the TV-remote control because they hurt my ears.... First time I heard her? 13 years ago when I was only 12. She is THE ONLY singer to whom my ears never say 'no' though I also listen to many kinds of music. Actually, I have some stories about my experiences with Basia's songs but I'm not sure that everybody here will allow me to share them since I've caused many 'riots' here. Anyway, to Fred, welcome, and enjoy the 'party' here. Czesc, Desianto F. My Basia experience yesterday......she was played at my wedding! Time and Tide (my favorite) was played during dinner. I don't remember any of the other songs that were played, but I know I heard that one! (It is funny how walking through a store I never notice the music that is playing unless it is Basia. When I am shopping with my (now) husband and one of her songs comes on I always have to stop and say, "Aw, do you know who that is?" He always knows it's Basia.) Maybe we should have invited her to the wedding??!!?? Could have been practice for upcoming tour (OK, fingers AND toes crossed). Off to Maui for 9 days - wonder if I will hear her there? May both of you live happily ever after. You can send her a letter to her address but I'm not sure if she would reply it. If only she had an e-mail address.... BTW, I've never seen you (your user name) before. Are you new here, or you just 'took a rest for a while' from this list? Desianto F.
