I have seen him live a couple of times and he is a superb jazz guitarist, as proven by his many industry awards. As you will see below, he also will answer his email, but basically could tell me nothing (new) about what Basia and Danny are up to. Hey, if anyone knows where Diane is these days, please let me know. So, here is the message I got from Peter last year. The concert I refer to was from the "Sweetest Illustion" tour, at the (then) Harborlights Pavillion which is a big tent right on Boston Harbor. It was a very lovely August evening and it was Danny's birthday. Basia actually broke down in tears a couple of times that night. It's the emotion in her music that make her so special and in her live show it was truly amazing. That whole waterfront has changed a lot since then and they moved the big tent down the street. That was a warm August(??) evening - it was Danny's birthday - and was probably the most memorable live musical event I've ever been to. I love "Glow" and am glad to hear you are still working. I read a posting on Yahoo that Danny and Basia are no longer working together. Is this true? I saw in your FAQ that she is still at work as of January, 2001. I apologize if you are tired of hearing this, but please pass along this fan's thanks for all of the great work she and Danny have done and my hope to hear some new songs some day. Also, is Diane Fisli still around? I used to swap emails with her, but, as with many other things, have lost contact. Best of luck in 2002 for you, Peter, and, as the song says, please come to Boston - soon ;-) thanks for all the great songs, Bill ********************************************************************** >X-Authentication-Warning: mail.bcpl.net: dregsfan owned process doing -bs >From: dregsfan@bcpl.net >To: Basia List >Subject: Peter White >X-Organization: BCPL.NET Internet Services >X-Complaints-To: abuse@bcpl.net >MIME-Version: 1.0 >X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.6 required=5.0 tests=NO_REAL_NAME,USER_AGENT_PINE,X_AUTH_WARNING version=2.53 >X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) >X-To-Unsubscribe: Send mail to "basia-request@smoe.org" >X-To-Unsubscribe: with "unsubscribe" as the body. > > >BTW, how do you all feel about Peter's solo stuff anyway? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 16:38:41 -0400 From: "Steve O'Hearn" Subject: RE: Meeting musicians, cont'd Talk about a small world - Todd's last name is Bauchspies, and he and Larry are good friends. I also was the sound engineer for a little local band here in Lincoln Nebraska back in the late 70's early 80's called the "specs" in which Matt Sweet played bass. My friend at the time discovered him. He now has a band called the Thorn's anybody heard of them? I'm jealous of him, he made it really big. And here i sit in Lincoln. Stinkin' Lincoln. The first name didn't really ring a bell anyway. Just I knew some of the guys that Larry used to play with and thought a last name might make it more familiar. I haven't seen Larry in many years. He and I were never really 'buddies' per se, but we knew each other and were always friendly. The last time I recall seeing him he was playing in a band called "Fat Fingers" at the lakeside venue (next to the ice rink) in Bowie. But if you see Larry tell him I said HI and wish him well for me. I'm sure he'll remember me. I was out in Los Angeles in the summer of 84 when he was attending BIT. Since I was out there by myself, I hooked up with him and some of his friends for lunch one day. But they place he was staying was really far from the place I was staying, plus I was never that much of a musician and he was really busy, so we never really hung out. BTW, I'm thinking that day at the lake in Bowie that Larry was also involved in another band possibly? My opinion (for what it's worth): I loved the first two albums, but from Promenade on he started to bore me, and the recent batch of albums *completely* bore me. Sorry, I like the guy and he's a class act, but I can't deal with his music anymore. To be honest, I can't deal with "Smooth jazz" as a genre. I was a big fan back in the early-mid '90s too, and as a teenager, so you know I must have been dedicated. :-) But they didn't call it smooth then, and the music had personality. Just MHO of course, popular or not. But in all fairness it doesn't seem fair to be asking him about Basia anymore. That was a looong time ago on his chronology, especially. - --Leslie __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Remember, they sang happy birthday to Danny? Peter played accordion on one song. Her backup singers were twin sisters from Mauritius. Spyro Gyra just kicked ass in the opening set. Wow, what a night! I could not believe the emotions she got running through the crowd. It was almost religious in nature. I have seen lots of great shows in my time, but that one will always stand out as my favorite. The next big show for me is Steely Dan in August. I love them. Hmmm, will Basia ever release a new recording???? I grew up with Brad Delp (of Boston) in Danvers and you would not believe how the record company screwed with them. It was ten years between releases for them, I believe. I think Basia is in the same boat. One, she had problems with her label and two, I think she is a perfectionist and will get her art published when she is good and ready. All artists want to see their work get published and I think she is no different. Hey, if she never releases another thing, I can live with that. Her present body of work will stand the test of time, I am sure. If there is more to come, it will just be icing on a very tasty cake ;-) I have been in this interest group since it started and most of the postings are junk, or selfish. Only every now and then will I post something, if I feel it's pertinent and of interest. You will hear a lot of negativity from folks who feel that Basia "owes it to her fans". Well, that's selfish on their part. Basia owes it to herself to control her own life, just as we all do. But, yes, keep hoping - for sure ;-) It's nice to hear from someone else who saw that show.
