There hasn't been anything new since her Best of album a few years back. I personally think she has retired and is no longer interested in making music. She comes from a wealthy family, and probably made enough from her albums to be able to live comfortably. I also sense that she was very "uncomfortable" in the limelight and did not like being on the road to promote her stuff. Richard from Ohio ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 11:36:26 -0400 (EDT) From: dregsfan@bcpl.net Subject: Thanks Hi everyone, Thanks very much for the warm welcomes. It's funny how there seems to be little to no trace of Basia at this point in time. Still, I'm sure that eventually we will hear more music from her at some future point. But who's to say *when* that might be? I guess none of us knows. I did want to remark on a couple of things though. About 3 or 4 years ago I was fortunate to meet Peter Whiter after one of his Smooth Jazz Christmas shows. I made the mistake of asking him what was up with Basia. He sorta bristled at the question and rolled his eyes, as if to say, "Geez, I wish people would stop asking me about HER!" or "I wish she'd put out that album so people would stop bothering me!" Then I think he mumbled something about how he had recorded some track for the album, that it had been quite some time, and he had no idea of the current status of things with it. I mean, don't get me wrong, he was really nice about everything, but he was plainly tired of people asking him about Basia. And I thought on a certain level it must be really demeaning to him, as here he is with his own career, and doing very nicely, which he has been working for YEARS now to build his following and gradually selling more CDs and concert tickets. It must be frustrating. I bet he probably feels similar to, say, how George Harrison must've felt back in the 70s and 80s when people asked about what Paul was up to. And I'm sure Peter still gets that question all the time, partly because it's in the FAQ section of his website. Has anybody else here met Peter? If so, did you too make the same mistake I did? More thoughts coming in (a) subsequent post(s). Joe ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 11:45:46 -0400 (EDT) From: dregsfan@bcpl.net Subject: Danny White? So much for Peter and the mystery of Basia. Does anyone have any idea what Danny White is up to? He had always seemed so hard-working and serious about his music. I'm a little surprised he hasn't at least made a solo album or some other kind of collaborative project. I can't help thinking of how when Sade was on hiatus for long enough her band got impatient and went and made an album without her, calling themselves "Sweetback." Althought the album went straight into the bargain bins, it was a very good piece of work. Anyway, Danny just doesn't seem like the type to sit still, yet his disappearance seems just as mysterious as that of Basia. Last I heard, he got married (to someone other than Basia), and since then I've heard no more, musically or otherwise. And what about Kevin Robinson? Did she ever marry him? I heard she was seeing him and that much of the lyrics on TSI were about him. Where is he now? Does he play anymore? And how about the other musicians? Two years ago I did see Karl Vanden Bossche playing for Sade on tour. That's about all I know. OK, one more thing then I will shut up. ;) I have an interesting story to share. Back in 1990 I had the good fortune to actually meet Basia and Danny White. This is how it happened. Basia played a show in DC. Afterward my friend and I caught her outside and got some autographs. Of course she was pleasant as could be. :) But the next person that went up to her after us had a camera! We were just kicking ourselves all over for not having thought of that ourselves! :( However, the very next night she was playing very close to Baltimore, and we had tickets to that as well. Well, to keep the story really short, we had the camera this time. There was apparently a backstage reception going on after the show, which we couldn't get into. So we waited outside the door for Basia to come out. It seemed like forever we were waiting, and most people had already left the party. We notice the crew had been taking all the equipment out at the far end of the building, so one of us asked the roadies if Basia was gonna come out and sign suff for fans. He said, Hey, she's already on board the tour bus over there, pointing across a muddy field. So we RAN. Reeach the bus, and then debated, and worked up the courage and knocked at the driver's window. We politely inquired about Basia and Danny and the driver said he'd see what he could do and in a moment Danny came out of the bus and shook our hands and signed a bunch of stuff for us. He was realy nice. Then we asked him for a photo, and he said sure, go ahead. We said, well, no, we meant with BASIA! He stopped with a blank look, asked us to wait for a moment and turned and boarded the bus. In a moment, Basia was at the door and invited all 3 of us up onto the bus. She was welcoming as could be with smiles and hugs and gathered us all together for a photo with her and Danny as Kevin Robinson took the photo. We rattled on nervously with "fan-babble" about how great we thought they were and when-is-your-next-album-coming-out and all that. They said goodnight and thanked them profusely. It was such a fun night. :) And I'm so proud of the photo we have to remember it all. :) OK, now I'll shut up! :( Joe ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 12:09:51 -0400 From: "Steve O'Hearn" Subject: RE: One More Thing... :( Joe ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jun 2003 14:17:02 -0600 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Sergio_Ch=E1vez?= Subject: RE: One More Thing... Regarding Kevin, he continues to be credited with horns on the "Simply Red" web page in the "Band" section. They are now touring Europe. He also recently appeared with them in London at the Pizza Express Jazz Club prior to the tour (according to the schedule posted a couple of months ago on the Pizza Express Jazz Club web page). Not much info, but then again there isn't much out there. Subject: WOW...., you're very lucky, Joe! You're very lucky, Joe, to meet her in person.... :-) I myself wouldn't dare to dream to meet her personally since I don't think that she would make a tour or a journey to Indonesia.... :-( BTW, I am so surprised this Monday morning (Indonesian time, of course) to find more than 20 mails in my inbox. It means that my dream come true because on the Saturday night, or Sunday early morning for exactly, I had a dream that I received more than 20 mails in my inbox. I never know why if I dream about something related to Basia in my sleep, about 80% will come true, though in different forms. I don't call myself a psychic, but these phenomena are too many to be considered as coincidence, e.g. I had one dream; one day, I met Basia, shook her hand, and we had a conversation. She said, "I'll come to you." The next morning, I received my Clear Horizon CD. There are still more, but I don't think it's a good idea to talk about my dreams in the list. Finally, I want to say again, "You're very lucky, Joe!" Desianto F. W. > OK, one more thing then I will shut up. ;) > I have an interesting story to share.
