I am a new member here. My name is Joe and I live in the Baltimore (Maryland, USA) area. I've been a big fan of Basia since the first album over 15 years ago now. I guess I'm probably wondering the same things everyone else is wondering: What is Basia up to? I can never find anything about her on the web anywhere! :( I mean there ARE a few sites, but no one seems to have anything new to say--for YEARS now. Does anyoe even know where she's living these days (I only want a country or a city, not an address)? Did she ever marry Kevin? Has anyone spotted her in public? I wonder even, how does she spend her time daily? Anyone have any clues? Or, what was actually the most recent NEW recording of her? I'm also curious as to how many members are on this list? Who are you all? And where is each of you from? Well, I'm not expecting magical answers. Basia's whereabouts seem to be the biggest mystery of any of the musicians I follow. But it's good to find this list and I hope at least to learn a few new things. She's from Portugal and now has 2 albums out. She is a BIG fan of Basia and purposely tailored many of the songs to sound just like Basia. If you're a Basia fan, I'm betting you'd enjoy it. :) Her first album in particular, has more of that sound. Both albums are produced by Nuno Bettencourt, formerly of Extreme (More Than Words). Nuno also played most of the instruments, wrote a little of the music, and even sang a duet with Lucia. About 1/3 of each album is in English, the remainder in Portuguese. If you're interested, I think Amazon sells them both. If anyone has already heard these--or if you eventually pick one up--I'd be curious to hear what you think. Also, who else might you consider as someone who sounds a lot like Basia? I tend to think of Sade and Swing Out Sister as being sorta in the same vein as Basia, but by no means a soundalike. I do think they'd make very good mates on a tour bill though. What do you think? As to your questions, the only one I can answer is that I am in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
