Thankfully, Leslie Osborn of the list has jumped into the fray and she and I will be getting together to work on updating the Discography pages. Leslie, as many of us on the list know, is a professional graphic artist/designer and also has an extensive collection of Basia materials. Leslie and I will let the list know when we've completed the updating. It may be awhiles though as she works fulltime (as do I) and I along with my responsibilities of working/being a single mom am remodeling my kitchen (!)..... but have no fear we will get to it. We want to keep Basia "out there" on the web both in the hopes of her producing new material in the future and to archive her previous accomplishments for her current and new fans. - -- Beverly Martin If my memory serves me correctly, Desianto F. Subject: Experience with Basia When talking about songs or singers, everybody has his or her own experience about them. Right now, I want to share my experience with some of Basia's songs, which happened just this week (May 27). There were stage performances in the theatre hall at my campus on that day - the aniversary day of my faculty. The day before, my friend asked me to be the sound enginer. It doesn't mean that I'm an expert in it. It's because there was nobody who want to take that job. So, besides lending my 4-string self-custom-made fretless bass and its amp+speaker, I, once again, held the job related to sound system. I checked the equipments the night before the 'D' day and I found that there was a CD player connected to the mixer. Since become a sound enginer means you can control almost everything about sound system, I got a crazy idea to play Basia's songs the next day. I planned to play it at the end of the show. Frankly, I've started to introduce Basia in my faculty, slowly but sure. But it's a big job to make a change in students' music tastes since they love to take everything up-to-date without considering the quality. After all, they don't know Basia at all. Only some best friends know that if there is something about Basia, the one should be responsible for it is me! Shortly, the day had come. I did my job well, minute by minute, even I had to help my fellow who played a play to handle the lightning. After three agonizing hours, it was the time for me to start my plan. I turned on the player, opened the channel on the mixer, and Third Time Lucky filled the air. By surprise, some of them danced along the song, even a boy played the bongos, tried to follow the music. Most of them just 'glued' on their chairs, maybe asking themselves about who's this singer with a wonderful voice. When Baby You're Mine was played, the situation went crazy. Some girls outside ran into the hall to enjoy it. Some girls were trying to sing along the lyrics. When I got out of the control room, I saw my fellow, a die-hard hard rock fanatic, danced like a lunatic. I said to him, "Hey, what are you doing? You'll be a lot slimmer when the song is over." He replied, "I don't care! As long as I can dance with this song, I don't mind!" Can you imagine it? A die-hard hard rock fanatic, who listen to nothing but a really hard rock music and looks like a hell rider (moustaches, a large body, and a leather jacket) danced along with Baby You're Mine! I still played some more songs that day, but some of them just too tired to listen to, so I had to end my show. But the best thing is that, I didn't see a tired face anymore, they went out with smile! Only some friends and me were left behind, cleaning up the mess. I said to myself, "I hope with those songs, I could put a question in their mind, a question about Basia." I still have some experiences with Basia's songs but maybe I will share them to you next time, when the list is needed to be heated-up. Thanks, Desianto F.
