They claimed she spent too much time complaining about the sound system and not enough time singing. I was too mesmerized to notice. Them Dee-troit wimin' sho can belt out the tunes!! By the way, I believe she took the BOTY honors away from Dionne Warwick, who can also sing a note or two. Glad Basia and Ms. Krall are more down to earth. There was a great article on DK in a Target rag a year or so ago. It was lip-synched as well. So was Celine's rendition of "God Bless America". I realize Canada is part of North America, but I still don't really get Celine singing "GBA". Worse than Shania's lip-synch were the poor saps "rocking out" in the backing band. I hope they were fashion models because no matter how bad my situation got I could have never accepted that gig. No way. Celine's un-mic'ed choir was also a laugh. Having said that - I have two items: (1) Wasn't it incredibly obvious that Shania was lip-synching? I am befuddled at the articles now questioning if this happened. Of COURSE it happened! Her every vocal inflection was precisely identical to her well known recordings. (2) So what? It was the Super Bowl! She was in a football stadium, not Carnegie Hall. Given the fact that the largest audiences of all time watch Super Bowls, combined with the chaos that reigns at those events, I'm amazed that more people don't lip synch. If she were singing the introductory national anthem, well THAT'S different, there's time to control that. But when you're in a facility with worse acoustics than a parking garage, and they're rolling out fans and stage and equipment within minutes between plays, and you're one of a half-dozen headliners, I think it's nuts to do otherwise. Shania's great at what she does. Leave her alone! - - Steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2003 10:11:53 -0800 (PST) From: Leslie Osborn Subject: Re: Anita Baker > Poor Anita got unofficially dubbed as "bitch of the > year"(by the local > press) during her last concert appearance in Little > Rock many years > ago. She lost some love in Detroit when she and her husband bought a revered historical building, tore it down, and built an IHOP! And it was one of the few historical buildings in Detroit not allowed to fall down or be burned! > Them Dee-troit wimin' sho can belt out the tunes!!
