I have been a Basia fan since 1989! I have been on the list since the very early 90's, not sure when. The highlight of being a part of this list is when 5 of us got together in Cleveland a few years ago on New Year's Eve and had a Basia lunch. All of us were on the list. It was great sharing our experiences in person. I have not seen any of those individuals on the list in quite some time ..... so I am asking that if they are lurking .... come out! Anyway, I have been to 3 Basia concerts and have a personal, hand written letter from her that I will cherish forever. I, as everyone else here, am anxiously awaiting news about her and her next musical creations. I enjoy playing many of her songs on my guitar and have some copies of the original lead sheets from her first album that were, through some fluke of telephone misunderstanding, sent to me. Anyway, I am here, and have been here all along. I just went through this actually. :-) This is my opinion, mind you, but I found few Basia songs to be wedding-ready. Yearning, for one, is long. Five minutes can be a long time when you are on the dance floor. But the words are pretty great. She Deserves It I love, but it bothers me for a wedding song because it has a bit of melancholy to it also. After all, it is about the "she" not feeling that she deserves it, or trying to come to terms that she might! IMHO, I just can't see any unhappy thought or apprehension entering into a main wedding dance song. :) Bruce had the best idea for Baby You're Mine, which was my pick, unfortunately it never got played because our crap DJ went on autopilot and pretty much ignored my wishes, which is a whole other story. It didn't end up being the main song for us, but I would have really enjoyed it, and I really regret that I was so overloaded with stimuli that I didnt go over there and ASK for it! Oh well, there will always be something you wish you did, that is one problem with weddings, lol. - --Leslie (who incidentally danced to "In Your Eyes") HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Nov 2002 11:26:07 -0800 From: "William N. I've been on the list since 1998. I have had the great fortune of seeing Basia twice in San Diego....simply amazing!!!! An incident that happened with Basia will always stay stuck in my mind: Basia was set to perform in San Diego, when at the last moment she had taken ill. She promised everyone in the audience that she would return....& in good faith she did, several months later. TOTAL CLASS ACT!!! Her music is inspiring....enough said. I'm Ben (sometimes Benn, to distinguish me from "the" Ben in this group :-)) from the Netherlands, or Holland, whichever you prefer. I've known Basia since I first saw her sing on the Matt Bianco video "Get Out of Your Lazy Bed" and I thought she had an intriguing nose (strengthened by the later cover of the "Clear Horizon" album). But it was really the voice that did it. Sultry, veiled voices have always been attractive to me, starting with Astrud Gilberto (boy, was I chuffed when I discovered that song on T&T!!!), followed by Basia and later Bebel Gilberto. And before anyone starts commenting that Miss B's voice is not veiled: well perhaps not, but doesn't it suffice that I like it? :) I've been on the list for quite some a few years now, not a regular contributor (I have my spells), but I love the buzz each time there's a new rumour about an upcoming album. Don't remember who said it, but I too miss the insightful, philosophical essays (what else to call them?) posted by Ashoke. If he's listening in, I hope he'll be moved to return. Keep on posting everyone, let's keep this list and with it our hopes alive! Ben PS Miss B's next tour should include Holland... or a stop nearby! :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2002 19:27:52 EST From: Mithors@aol.com Subject: Re: basia-digest V7 #117 I'm Jose, have been on this list for a year. I wrote her a letter in '87 mailed the letter the next year and got a reply in Nov. of 1988 while she was making the video "New day for you" she said I made her laugh and i asked her if i could be in their band. She sent me a 8.5" x 11" glossy B/W picture of her blowing me a kiss that reads " To Tom with love and a kiss." Obviously that was a great day. I have seen her twice In Kansas City, 88' & 90'. I have a good collection of records/cds/45s/posters. I am very excited about the new cd buzz, especially the link to matt bianco. I used to DJ wedding receptions, largely because I was so amazed at how bad so many DJ's out there already are. I went to one reception where the DJ arrived 30 minutes after the guests, falling in the back door, hastily set up and played "Leaving on a Jet Plane", followed by "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do". I was expecting "Love Stinks" to follow ...
