CDs I've been listening to a "Best of Basia" CD compilation that I made and it got me to wondering...I can't be the only one who's ever made a CD/tape like this. Who else has ever made a personal "Best of Basia" collection? What is it's title? What is the track listing? Mine's a two-CD set called... "Yearning" Disc 1 - Cruising For Bruising * Drunk On Love * Until You Come Back To Me * New Day For You * Copernicus (Live) * Clear Horizon * Yearning * Run For Cover * Baby You're Mine * Waters Of March * Third Time Lucky * Promises * She Deserves It / Rachel's Wedding Disc 2 - Half A Minute (Live) * Prime Time TV * Angel's Blush * Dzien Sie Budzi (Live) * The Sweetest Illusion * Brave New Hope * Go For You * Simple Pleasures * An Olive Tree * Just Another Day * Springtime Laughter * So Nice (Summer Samba) * Time And Tide Anybody else? I then went after them on ebay with a vengeance. I compiled them onto a single CD I called "The Diva Remixed". I also included some of the more obscure recordings like "So Nice" and "Masquerade" as well as beloved album cuts like "New Day for You" and "Time & Tide". It's sort of my default Basia CD anymore and I tend to play it at dinner parties, etc. As an interesting (to me anyway) aside, I once had a friend that was sad due to a recent breakup. He was a Basia fan too and so I went to the florist and tried to have her create a bouquet of flowers from the song "Yearning", but no dice. The florist guessed that most of the flowers in the song like Sunshine Wattle (sp?) and Star of Bethlehem must be flowers native to Poland cause she'd never heard of them. Anyway, for those bored, my CD track listing is below. ~Rad 1. Cruising for Bruising (Phil Harding 12" Mix) 2. New Day for You 3. Until You Come Back to Me (Phil Harding 12" Mix) 4. Clear Horizon 5. Drunk on Love (Extended Dance Mix) 6. Masquerade 7. Brave New Hope (Brave New Mix) 8. Go for You 9. So Nice 10. Run for Cover (Extended Mix) 11. Half a Minute 12. Prime Time TV (Extended Mix) 13. What a great voice. she has, NOT. GEEZ, did she really get help digitally, or not. Every body knows that answer. Her early music represents the raw she really had before the big time producers got a hold of her. She was as plain as the next Jane. I was a Video DJ in VA Beach clubs in the early 80's part time when I was stationed there. She has about as much individual talent as Stacey Q. "I I I I..... I need you", "Starlight, Starbright, first star I see tonight." Relatively the same caliber of talent. Yes it was fun to be in the clubs back then. But everybody knows Madonna really never made strides like she did after included lurid and explicit sexual content in her performances. You have to give her credit to do anything to make it, but not necessarily respect how she did it. She is about as damaging to youth's ideas of the world as Gang'sta Rap is. Is it good to teach young people it's O.K. to be morally corrupt as long as you succeed? On the other side of the coin are the performers, primarily in Jazz, who never get the respect for their talent. Basia was definitely in that group (and should come back soon). Though I don't know her I feel she would probably never have sold herself the way Madonna did to make it. Is it good to teach young people it's O.K. to be morally corrupt as long as you succeed?" I feel the same way. I have often thought that, as a mother of a teen. I wonder what Madonna will tell Lourdes, her little girl, as she gets older? Also, why does she feel compulsively driven to continue to make money after having over $830 million? When is enough money---enough. Is there a LUST for money and limelight...that dear Basia seems to shy from? My 13 year old thinks Madonna is a major S-L-U-T. Her friend, also 13, wants to know what this list thinks of her. They are curious about this list and all the Madonna e-mails that come across it. They say, "too bad Madonna is such a publicity hog. Get her outta our face." Does Basia have any children? Any body know? These 13 year olds think Basia sounds too much like MUSAK. "She sounds like a certain kind of forcefully happy church music", they said. Basia used sequencing on her first two albums for some of the parts, but I bet there were no studio tricks to "fix" her voice, as is obvious from her live recordings. And she had a band that could play all the songs. - -----Original Message----- From: Navaira To: basia@smoe.org Date: Sunday, March 03, 2002 2:58 PM Subject: Re: OT: Madonna and electronics > >> Who is the better musician? >> >> 1) Someone who plays a piano part into a sequencer with sloppy technique, >who >> then corrects the errors with the sequencer's quantize function, >> >> or: >> >> 2) Someone who plays uses a sequencer to build up multiple tacks like a >multi-track >> tape recorder, occasionally correcting some timing errors, >> >> or: >> >> 3) Someone who uses a sequencer to enter notes in step mode and programs >sequences >> that would be impossible for a human being to play. > >Um, and which one of those is Basia and which is Madonna because you lost me >by this point? ;) > >I'll answer "the one who creates the most beautiful end result", I guess. > > [ > Ray ] >[ I'll stand in front of you | take the force of the blows | protection ] >[ www.navaira.prv.pl ] > > > > >-- > >Tego nie znajdziesz w zadnym sklepie! >[ http://oferty.onet.pl ] ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Mar 2002 22:24:54 -0500 From: "Bill Roberts" Subject: Re: teenage girls >Does Basia have any children?
