In the interview, she stated that they threw in the Stevie Wonder cover to their live performances almost as a filler, as a cool thing to do for the live audiences, but when audiences responded so positively so frequently, and began asking for a recording of their particular rendition, she felt it would be good to do it on the LWNY album, but - I think, in her opinion, in this somehow new and improved arrangement. So I'm thinking she likes the recorded version better. Personally, I'm just interested to hear the original live arrangement, because I just don't the fascination with the LWNY version, which I don't care for. I don't HATE it, but I just greatly prefer Stevie Wonder's original, as well as Anything Else Basia. - - Steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 05:59:15 -0800 From: "ERNEST L GUNTER" Subject: Re: Least Favorite Basia Songs--and favorites OK... I find that hard to believe... even if the station manager/Maytag repairman on that show is/was a Mormon. I can't believe they ever did sing that song. Are you talking about the "what a lovely way of saying how much you love me..."? That is too funny if it is true. Al Roker had them singing "BINGO" and doing the wave last week on the Today Show. They are just regular people but I still can't believe they did that song. Have you ever heard the "Most Annoying Music CD?" I got it for my husband for Christmas. It includes a Japanese Bluegrass arrangement of "Material Girl." It is the kind of CD that makes you say "Why did I buy this?" and then you can't get some of the songs out of your head. I uploaded an mp3 of my favorite song by Waylon. Song title is 'Luckenbach Texas'. It is a lovely, nostalgic tune. The final verses were sung by Willie Nelson, who also sang backup for the song. Below is the URL, for anyone who would like a copy. I recommend doing a 'right click/Save Target As' on the link, then saving it to your preferred directory. File size is 3.2 meg. I believe that the lyrics are appropriate for this occasion. http://www.geocities.com/predawnlight/luckenbach.mp3 LLL, - - Jim _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 06:22:58 -0600 From: "Jim C" Subject: RE: Least Favorite Basia Songs--and favorites Leslie wrote ------------------------------------------------- > > But I have to say - I'm not crazy about her version > > of Stevie Wonder's > > "Until You Come Back", or whatever the title is. I totally agree. The Queen did it right. Basia flubbed it until (experience?) BOB. Then she and her group did a pretty good job. Another massacred tune was 'So Nice'. Yucko. To hear a good version properly rendered, listen to Bebel Gilberto (or Astrud, 1964). Otherwise, most of Basia's work is first class :) - - Jim >From: Leslie Brown >Reply-To: basia@smoe.org >To: basia@smoe.org >Subject: RE: Least Favorite Basia Songs--and favorites >Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2002 21:43:06 -0800 (PST) > > > > But I have to say - I'm not crazy about her version > > of Stevie Wonder's > > "Until You Come Back", or whatever the title is. > >I am not, either. Some years ago I called a DJ in Atlanta and requested Basia's "Until you come back to me" . He said he only had Aretha Franklin's version and I said ok. He asked my name and I was nervous and gave my full name instead of just my first as was customary. He made some comments about it being a "torch" song and a very passionate one. I still get red-faced when I think about requesting a "torch" song using my full name. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 11:35:46 -0800 (PST) From: Leslie Brown Subject: RE: Least Favorite Basia Songs--and favorites > I wasn't saying that she saw fault with it - on the > contrary, Oh, no--that was my interpretation of the comment in the video, not anything you said. :-) the way I > understood her comments in the New Day video's > interview, I think she liked > the album version better than the version they had > become known for doing in > live concert, which was why she recorded that one. Perhaps. I was only talking about her comments re the LWNY version vs. the remixed version. Didn't someone have a tape of an old concert with the original Aretha Franklin medley on it? Seems like I remember someone being very proud of it a few years ago... ;-) That would be something... - --Leslie (incidentally, I prefer Stevie's version) Yahoo!
