I guess the rumors of a Dec. 2001 release were premature. 2 questions for the Basia freaks. 1. Is there a better piano break in the world than the one on Third Time Lucky? 2. Anybody else get the sense that in "Perfect Mother" she's singing about the Virgin Mary? Don't want to paint all Polish girls as card carrying Catholics, but it does give a different perspective on the song. I've got to get some of her music over to my kids' dance instructors. Tired of the annual performances containing "Rock around the Clock" and "Rockin' Robin"!! It's absolutely mind boggling to me that she can write and perform this stuff. Would love to find a source for any of the Matt Bianco CD's. Clear Horizon was my introduction to her music, although I vaguely remember Time and Tide and Crusiin for a Bruisin from the late 80's era. No one will ever accuse me of being current on the music scene. Hell, I didn't get into Dire Straits til '93!! I'm slowly catching up as I'm only about 7 years behind on Diana Krall. Then there's this group called REM. Wonder if they're any good? Bottom line is I'd drive a long way to see her and Danny et al perform. Bullwinkle ay' CD to anyone on the list who has not purchased it. Hi Bruce, Yes! TSI is far and away the best recorded LP, which I will treasure for the rest of my life. BOB is a very special 'best of', since it does have most of her best music, *improved* very greatly at the NY concert. Both albums are a whole lotta magick. ~ Jim >From: Bruce Grembowski >Reply-To: basia@smoe.org >To: basia@smoe.org >Subject: Re: Box set, BOB >Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 20:03:39 -0800 (PST) > > >--- Jim C wrote: > > .... If there is I have yet to hear it. Seldom do I listen to the song on TSI without backtracking and listening to that piano sequence a few times. Third Time Lucky is a brilliant song, and one of my favorites. >Anybody else get the sense that in "Perfect Mother" she's singing about >the Virgin Mary? Don't want to paint all Polish girls as card carrying >Catholics, but it does give a different perspective on the song.< That is an interesting thought. I always thought that "Perfect Mother" was a tad unusual for Basia. Even though she is a mom herself, the words didn't seem to fit her, or anyone else I could think of. I will give it another listen, thanks for the suggestion. Hmm, it would not surprise me if Basia were a grandmother by now. That thought never occurred to me before :) ~ Jim >From: Max Wellhouse >Reply-To: basia@smoe.org >To: basia@smoe.org, basia@smoe.org >Subject: Re: Box set, BOB >Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 01:58:46 -0600 > > >Last I'd heard, she had some new music and was shopping it around. Having said that, two words for anyone going through Basia withdrawal. Two words. Here they are: (SCROLL DOWN) . . . (SCROLL DOWN) . . . (SCROLL DOWN) . . . Two words: EVA CASSIDY. Just read the customer comments about her Songbird album at Amazon.com. They will make you laugh, they will make you cry, her story will break your heart, but one thing's for sure: NOBODY in recording history has had a better voice. Including Basia. I hate to say it, but it's true. Eva has built a huge international following and yet - - No advertising of any kind - No tour - No band - No press coverage - until recently ... because she passed away in 1996, without ever having received a recording contract. Yet she hit #1 on the BBC recently, and is climbing charts worldwide. The only time ABC's Nightline ever repeated a broadcast in their 20+ year history was when they recently repeated a bio on Eva Cassidy. But don't take my word for it, fellow Basia fans.
