[Leslie Brown Subject: Fw: Appropriate Discussion? - Playboy caliber body? Sheesh, talk about overreaction...by my count there were a couple of posts merely asking the question, "I wonder if any publication ever approached Basia about posing nude," then a couple that basically said "I bet she would look good." Then five or six posts (including mine) that never even mentioned Basia but commented on the way Playboy portrays women in an unreal fashion. Since then, what - maybe 40 postings telling us how disgusting we all are, how we're ruining the list and we'd better discuss BASIA 100% of the time. Here's a suggestion...everyone cut and paste this nice, non-threatening message, and we'll all fill in the blanks and send it in on a regular basis: Hi, my name is _________. I really like Basia, her music is great! My favorite album by her is ________. I have seen her in concert __ times, in _______. It was great! Her band is great! Does anyone know when she'll have a new album? Please let me know if I have left in anything objectionable and I'll edit our nice generic, all-Basia message further. It's quite interesting what this whole thing has brought about: - - Defending free speech, free expression.. - - Delete it, or leave it... It is the joy of this country that we do have these freedoms, and I feel as strongly about them as I'm sure most of you do. However, I don't enjoy having to explain to my young daughter who is old enough to know what Playboy is, why Dad get's these kind of messages in his mailbox, etc., and next explain to the Mrs... I have been on this group for some time, and haven't encountered such line's in the Subject. Whether I find the topic distasteful in relation to Basia, is purely my opinion, as I too have the freedom to speak if I so desire as well. Having some tact, discretion, and consideration for the potential audience here is not asking you to give up your right to free speech. I thought I had recounted all of the good stories. By the time I had heard "FNO" in '86/'87 on WBMW in DC, I already had a pirate promo copy of T&T in my DJ box that my friend Carroll had stocked for me while I was back in Denmark. I hadn't had the time to preview it - in fact I wasn't even sure what it was. It had a B&W printed copy of the cover art that was hard to decipher. I imagine I still have it somewhere in storage, but I had replaced it in my collection with a real copy. As far as meeting Basia, the Bayou concert stage used to be slightly lower than chest level. I was one of the few that was there and I spent the entire concert at arms length from Danny and Basia. Afterwards, we ran into her at the Four Seasons up the street. The Baltimore, Columbia, Oslo, Philly and Atlantic City concerts yielded fruit from my usual backstage stalking, but of course the Simon Theatre meeting was the most fulfilling. - --- Jeff Abrams clavier@bellatlantic.net SUPERCHARGED 2.5 liter 1993 Mazda MX-3 GS http://www.mazdamaniac.com TURBOCHARGED 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. ANYWAY, I had to let the whole world know that I have recently adopted a new cat. And what better name to give her? BASIA, after my favorite diva. And this cat definitely needed a diva name.
