Yeah, I like "Time and Tide", "London Warsaw New York", and "The Sweetest Illusion", but all Basia's studio stuff after that just didn't grab me. - -- Ben Combee Techwood Broadcasting Foundation, Austin Bureau Chief ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2001 11:29:22 EDT From: VOKALYZER@aol.com Subject: Re: Fw: Court & Spark; Roach; Corrs Just having some records from a particular era doesn't mean you have a collection... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2001 11:34:12 EDT From: VOKALYZER@aol.com Subject: Re: Court & Spark; Roach; Corrs MCH, So, no Britney, no Joni...just what is in that tiny package of music you do like? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2001 13:00:10 -0700 From: "MCH" Subject: Re: Court & Spark; Roach; Corrs > > That was when Joni started to try to be cool, after having already > > *been* cool. You only like an artist's first few > albums, then desert them when they start to grow and change... (awed) Wow, you're right on with that... I never realized it before... but it's true. (Achtung, an especially good example.) Except that instead of "grow and change" I would say "go into decline". (Though, it is possible for an artist to have a comeback and return to equal or even greater glory. Like we hope Basia does.) You have to understand that "growing and changing" is a euphemism for getting old, jaded, tired, and losing touch with your muse and your audience. The frantic, self-indulgent flopping around that artists do in this phase is euphemised as "experimentation" or "exploration". But "explorations" shouldn't be recorded or sold. The people deserve finished, committed work. All the above doesn't mean any disrespect to the artists, I just assume that success is such a difficult and intense thing that inevitably, it exceeds human tolerance and the stars shut down for a while. They're only human. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2001 18:52:38 EDT From: Somegirl99@aol.com Subject: Re: history.txt >Yes, Meg, Juan, Dennis, Jacki, Roach, Diane have all been around for a while I've been around since '92? That's because I don't spend much time online anymore, and when I finally do get around to reading my email, there's tons of it... I just hurry up, read and get out of there. But I'm still here. So, when's a good time for Juan's Bed & Breakfast to host this show? Sometime this winter so all the northerners can defrost? Christina Argulara (however it's spelled).... what's up with that chicks hand waves? The couple of times I've seen her on TV, all I can think about is how stupid she looks with her hands doing their constant little flipy waves. (Since some of the beaches have been closed) is that like "if the food won't come to me, I'll go to the food"? The group can't come here... cause we'd all end up at Disney... and someone would spot Mickey and then we'd all be clamoring to have our pics taken with him. And then where would that leave us?... having spent a weekend with Basia-loving-type people, without having ever actually done any talking about her. That damn mouse, he always gets all the top billing.
