It looks like the last theing that I picked up was the So Nice single with the album and inst versions. Was there a remix or extended version of this? What has been released since? Did the Spyro Gyra (sp?) thing ever happen? I know that there was at least one thing that came out a while back with her doing the vocals on it. What was it? Also, can anyone out there help my out with a CDR of MR. Sanchez, the Haunted Coctails single and the David Cassidy track that she sang on. Also, anyone know of a good source for the old Matt Bianco 12"s with the basia b-sides on them? Thanks a bunch in advance, Mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 12:17:35 -0800 (PST) From: Leslie Brown Subject: Re: Collection help This is all merely the opinion of a longtime collector, nothing more. :-) 1. If you have the Japanese single, you have all that was released of So Nice, to my knowledge anyway. Bummer, that would make a great remix. Maybe someone has done it. 2. Spyro Gyra's album "Got the Magic" has the song "Springtime Laughter" that Basia sang on. To my knowledge there was no single. Wouldn't it be cool if it were like "Just Another Day," where it was essentially made a single by popular request? FYI: So Nice is actually the most recent release. Oh, and that's it for her post-1994 guest spots, except for Just Another Day, and you can get that in two different singles, yay! Maybe you were thinking of the supposed Steve Winwood thing that Basia was talking about, but there is no evidence of that ever taking place. Maybe it's languishing with the master tapes of the album Sony never put out. God, I hope she and Danny got ownership of that record and that its not in legal limbo. You hear of that happening so often... 3. Re: Me & Mr Sanchez -obviously you can take care of that and the David Cassidy song in one fell swoop if anyone has "Strangely Familiar Tunes" (anyone?) Apart from that, it's weird, but I've run across many Blue Rondo vinyl releases lately. They list lineups, and Danny's name is not in there. Nor Mark Reilly. I don't get it either. Apparently Danny, Mark, and Kito Poncioni left and a new linup took place, or maybe they were a revolving door like Incognito. Oh well. Point is, there are those items you will have to dig for, and the Blue Rondo and the Departures (ugh) thing are one of those things. Whatta rush, tho', when you find them. I think the David Cassidy *album,* if you want to go that far, is still available for the "Romance" track. I saw it as recently as a year ago. Wasn't 'Departures' released by some indie label in the UK? If that's the case that would truly be the holy grail of recordings, as I'm willing to bet it was limited run of copies. It certainly isnt ESK-1276, for all the copies I've seen posted on Ebay lately. 4. The MB 12'" game to me so far has been disappointing, as I only collect stuff with picture sleeves, and most of them have been with record company sleeves instead. 7" are much better- I found the Big Rosie the other day for $1! That is another advantage of digging through stores- this stuff isn't exactly valuable to most people. But I have done searches on Google simply for Matt Bianco and come up with stuff, so try that as well. The Get Out of Your Lazy Bed/ Matts Mood picture disc is pretty cool to find, IMHO. It's shaped too. (incidentally, Kahimi Karie did a version of that song that I am definitely looking for) So, record stores, online, Ebay of course. I would also look through Goldmine, I've gotten most of my collection through people advertising in there. Jack Wolak's Rare Necessities is a great place. Also, look for record shows in your area. I've also done pretty well there, scoring about 5 promo singles for a buck each. The coolest to me to find, if you can, is the Countdown America show from 1990. There are some dealers that deal strictly in countdown shows, particularly in Goldmine, that you may be able to pick this up from. About 10 minutes in all of interview, but cool nonetheless. She talks about post Communist Poland, and rebelling against her dad. :-) A quintessential Basia interview. Geekily, Leslie ;-) Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! I'm no Basia-expert, but have all her albums (I think), and can't find/remember this tune. It's great and sound very much like matt bianco, can somebody tell me what's the story behind this song? It sounds so familiar ... Ernst-Jan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 18:15:39 -0500 From: "Paul S. Fish" Subject: Re: one note samba It's actually a lyric from "Astrud". The person who put it on Napster must have just forgotten the title. I've come across this one as well. Paul - ---- "Well then, put on your jammies and I'll read you a story!"
