TALENT IS TALENT! Good morning to all.......haven't had much of a chance to contribute lately but have "listened" keenly to you all. I am an American, but Portuguese by descendancy.........I didn't grow up around jazz, soul, r&b, or rock (it wasn't permitted in my father's house)......instead I grew up around a kind of music that is heard all over the world, but since it's considered part of the "old country", it isn't highly touted in the U.S. I speak, of course, about..........fado........(pronounced "fah-doo") The lead singer for years was a young woman (who will always be young in my heart)......Amalia Rodrigues....... In her day.....Amalia........demanding......a true diva......was this sultry siren of the European music scene.......black hair, brown eyes, and a deep mournful voice that would reach into one's very soul....... Drawing on a similarity......there is our diva........demanding perfection of her music (while enjoying it)........black hair, green eyes, and this throaty voice that makes you WANT to listen to her. Amalia, alas, is gone........she'll always be with us, though in her music........and a halfway decent web site: http://www.amalia.com and at http://www.arcofilms.com. Talent is talent is talent........long live them both! Adeus Eduardo ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Feb 2001 00:24:11 -0500 From: pineking@gwi.net Subject: Re: BASIA? AMALIA? SIMILAR? DIFFERENT? TALENT IS TALENT! Basia can only hope to have such a career as Amalia's - but it's not too late! She only needs to get into the movies, in one way or another! And describing amalia.com as 'halfway decent' is like saying Life Magazine was only a periodical. I sure wish, however, it had an English option. Amalia's devotion (in a Patsy Cline-ish style) to traditional Portuguese folk music is mirrored by Basia's occasional forays into the indigenous Polish catalogue. However, Basia's career continues to suffer by having little connection with the cinema. She has the looks and the talent, so why is she not involved? Thanks Eduardo for reminding us of the depth of Basia's artistic heredity. Phil From: "Cidade Family" To: Subject: BASIA? AMALIA? SIMILAR? DIFFERENT? TALENT IS TALENT!
