Some news we'd heard confirmed, and some good news for the future! To: combee@techwood.org From: Peter White Subject: HI Hi Ben- Thanks for mentioning me in your Basia site. Actually, the Broadway shows were in Nov/Dec. 1994. The live album was released in late 95 with a few TV appearances from the lady herself in November or December in New York. I played with her, along with Danny and a bass-player and percussionist on some shows like "Good Morning America" and "Regis and Kathie Lee". Really! These were certainly her last appearances in the USA. There is a new CD that is well under way- I have played on it! (You can quote me on this, and anything else contained here.) It is true that Basia is now out of her contract with Sony. They will certainly look for a new label, and that being done, the CD should be released......who knows when! (I cannot speculate here- many have tried and failed!!!) I think she is a totally unique talent and wonderful person and I hope she starts to perform again. Almost daily, people ask me when she is coming back! I just hope she does find a label to support her, I keep thinking she should go to where that Clive Davis (forced retired from Arista) went -- he revived Carlos Santana's career and I hope he could bring his same marketing magic to our Polish diva. - -- Beverly Martin Ben Combee wrote: > I just got a very interesting email in my inbox that I thought I should share > with you all. Yeah. It was hard to say I liked R & B in those days because everyone I knew thought it was a crap genre. The sad thing is, a lot of it was. > They whine! (I mean, Coldplay) Ha! At least you didn't mean me. I usually don't go for that either but for some reason this was different. > She's great, I agree. So guys, run and check that > album! Yeah, the follow up -which name totally escapes me at the moment- was also pretty good but International Velvet is so tight it's hard to argue with it. The second album was the one they used to try to break them in the US- it even has a couple of IV tracks on it. Of course it didn't work. > En Vogue as in "Basia needs to get en vogue" :) Maybe that "we're never gonna get it," too... > "Loving You", the 20 minute opus is too erotic for > words... Whoa, cowboy, keep it clean! ;) Oh, another important 2000 thing I forgot to mention was my love affair with the streaming audio of BBC Radio 1. If you have a strong enough connection and use Netscape ( which I keep around only for that purpose!), it's bliss. Easily amused, Leslie Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Anybody > who can tell me who that is gets a big cyberhug. Elfego gets the hug BTW. Ms. deBrett was Basia's vocal coach before TSi, the one who taught her to do all those cool opera sounds (oh, yeah, I'm so sophisticated here! Doh!) It was a funny feature where they asked questions posed in songs to people who would actually know the answer. Tona's question was "Bass! How low can you go?" of course from Public Enemy. You get the idea. - --Leslie Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/ ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V6 #7 *************************
