Quite lovely and dreamy! What else is on there? Maybe email me back directly so as not to take up the time of these good folks with chat other than that about the great lady and her friends! Thanks! Hmm well, did they have much of a career before the Todd Terry remix of "Missing"? And from Ben's own words, even they themselves were bored with their acoustic sound; also judging from Ben playing deep house in his Lazy Dog club it's hardly possible to get back to "Come On Home". And the dance sound they've used on their latest album, Temperamental is hardly 'latest trend' - if they used two-step or trance, it would be different. (wow... a trance remix of "I don't wanna talk about it" must exist somewhere... ;) Electronic music is the future (says Ray, who absolutely loves Walking Wounded and maybe not absolutely, but really loves Temperamental too) PS. I hope you're not offended, or something :) it's not easy to tell one's real feelings using e-mail. Bebel Gilberto is sort of on topic. She is the daughter of Joao and Astrid Gilberto. And, as we will recall, Astrid is one of Basia's influences, about whom Basia wrote the song "Astrid." Therefore, Bebel comes from exceptional musical heritage. This may be her first album, but it is selling very well in the Americas. Any one else hear it? I heard part of it on the Latin Jazz show on my local Jazz station this last Sunday. Bebel comes from exceptional parentage. What I heard was very nice! Bebel is the daughter of Joao Gilberto and his wife "Miucha" whom he married after his split with Astrid. Miucha is also a singer, also performed with Stan Getz. She is pictured on the "Best of Both Worlds" album, along with Stan and Joao, but not mentioned by name. I always thought it was a rotten attempt by the record company to make people think it was the much-beloved Astrid appearing on the album. Not that they were bad before. I admire their guts in doing something different so late in their careers. Of course they aren' t the most original band now, I liked their recent album but it was kinda too familiar. > Electronic music is the future Nuh, uh, it's two-step! ;) Oh yeah, here's some albums/songs I found useful this year. Not in order: Coldplay- Parachutes *sigh* If you're in the UK, believe the hype. If you're in the US, here's a band you probably haven't heard of that makes decent pop-rock. I dont really know how elese to describe it. Echoes of Radiohead and, don't shoot me here, Pink Floyd. INcredible Sound of Gilles Peterson Awesome chill-out tunes. made me love the Rotary Connection. Also making me want to buy the UK double-disc set. It's that good. Catatonia-International Velvet Way late on this one. But suffice to say that Basia is right. These guys kick arse. Cerys Matthews could kick *my* arse, but I love her anyway. Kahimi Karie- KKKKK Another older one, but fab on the French pop tip. "One-Hundred Twentieth Century Chairs" is the ultimate ditch-town song. Powerpuff Girls- Heroes and Villians Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Makes me want the Pixies to get back together. PJ Harvey- Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea My other concession to rocking out this year. Makes me ant to buy her back catalogue. Masters at Work 10th Anniversary Collection Some of that newfangled dance music for ya. Incognito remixes. House is tops. Young Disicples- Road to Freedom Waaay late for me. I just love Carleen Anderson. hey, speaking of vocal madness, did anyone notice that Tona de Brett is in Q magazine this month? Anybody who can tell me who that is gets a big cyberhug. 'Nuff from me. I fail to see what En Vogue has to do with it though. - --Leslie Yahoo!
