I enjoyed Tom's list of top 10 releases of the almost finished year of 2000, as well as the other lists that have been posted. Here are my choices: 1. Aimee Mann: Bachelor #2 - a great follow-up to 1999's Magnolia soundtrack. 2. Kirsty MacColl: Tropical Brainstorm - Maybe the best album this delightful singer/songwriter ever produced. Sadly it will be her last, as she died one week ago today. I will always enjoy her music. 3. Steely Dan: Two Against Nature - All Becker/Fagen fans gave out with a huge sigh of relief that this album was so very good. 4. Amy Rigby: The Sugar Tree - This lady has won over the critics, now everyone go out and buy her CD's! 5. Suzzy Roche: Songs from an Unmarried Housewife - Hopefully 2001 will see a reunion of the Roches. 6. Indigenous: Circle - For those who doubt great blues/guitar-based rock is still being made, check out this great Native American quartet. Better yet, see them live and be prepared to be thrilled. 7. k.d. lang: Invincible Summer - Fine album by the finest voice in pop music. 8. Patricia Barber: Nightclub - Fascinating singer/pianist performing pop standards in her own inimitable fashion. 9. Jane Olivor: Love Decides - Fine return of a great singer. For those of us waiting impatiently for a new Basia album - here's a scary fact: this is Jane's first album in EIGHTEEN years! Please Basia, don't keep us waiting that long. 10. Stacey Kent: Dreamsville - I discovered this brilliant singer and her top-notch jazz combo this year, and ran to the stores to buy all her albums. A voice to warm you up on a cold winter's night. Honorable mentions: Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Jane Siberry, Sade, Joni Mitchell - all these veterans had fine albums in 2000. And not to be negative, but I have to give you my WORST musical moment of the year - "Who Let the Dogs Out" by the Baha Men. Like "Tubthumper" and "Macarena" before it, this song was mildly amusing for one listening, then it wore out its welcome quickly, and was played to death for the rest of the year. One of those songs - it must have sold a million copies, yet you can't find anyone who admits to liking it. Thanks for listening, and Happy New Year!
